The guys on the Honda Rebel forum gave me grief for doing it the way you did and I redid mine dropping the nut into the pipe, wedged it in a bit snug and just brazed mine, some of those guys were advocating welding, I'm using a little cheap wire feed from Harbor freight and it really does not heat things up real hot, certainly will burn but not like a torch does. Anyway I brazed it and the brazing did a good job, made it nice and clean to look at and has to just hold tail lights so strength was not a big concern on mine, no warping at all on it.

I did a little work to the mounts. Just a real quick job of welding and grinding a little. It could certainly look way better, but this is fine for me. It was fine for me before though. If you really wanted it to look great I do think the welding a nut inside of a larger tube would have beena better choice, but I never thought of doing it that way and I'm not cutting them all off and starting over. Another option would be to weld a solid steel bar on and drill/tap it or find a collar or sleeve that comes tapped and weld it on. The frame was cleaned and washed and is now hanging to dry so I can get some primer on it.

Looks like it is floating, you really lightened that frame up.

You know with the highway bars you really should go with some pull back handle bars. And don't forget the sissy bar either.

The scooter is a relatively short frame and I'm a tall guy with long arms. I do think it would look cooler if the handlebars were a little lower though. No thanks on the sissy bar lol.

I got it going. Just a loose connection.
I took it for a 4 mile test spin. I never had it over 55MPH but it feels super fast. It's actually slower right now because it's bogging. I noticed that the plug was too rich when I pulled it earlier. It feels like you're riding a loud bicylcle though. 50MPH feels like 60+MPH or more. I think it's gonna be badace for messing around town.
The rear pegs are great, aside form my heel hitting the air filter if I move my feet too far back. The front pegs should have been a couple inches wider to really relax, but they are still comfortable.
The front end feels light. There is probably a total of 6-7 pounds off the front half of the scooter, so maybe that's just my eyes seeing nothing there and making me think it's light? lol It's definitely not power pulling it up any more to make it feel that way, like I said it's not running 100%.
The headlights are brighter in the daytime at least. They seem to be much more intense than the stocker, so maybe cars will notice me a little more. I did see peole staring at me just on this short trip. I don't think people are quite sure what it is... or maybe they're wondering what's wrong with me? Why would he do that to that poor scooter?
So far so good. If I can get the tune back to normal and replace the flasher with one that flashes (it gets old quick turning your signal on and off) I'll be very happy with this thing. All for less than $150.

I gotta say i wasnt sure about the whole "naked" theme. I guess i have just adapted so well to the way our scooters look with the plastic. Yours looked real good! ;D. I didnt think i would like the look, but you have pulled it off , that thing looks pretty sweet man . Good job, hava bone. It looks like a Ruk stalker lol. I bet its like you put your drivetrain on a tall minibike. A whole new scoot for under $200(just guessin). Hope the cops dont stop you thinking you have some homemade custom....Wait, i guess ya kinda do. With the all your custom lights you have come up with its mostly legal right .?. Even a dumb cop could tell its a scoot, just one wicked modified scoot . Im glad you are back on the road buddy.

Looking at the pics more, i think your frame brace really completes the look without plastics. I know its not there for looks but i think it sure makes it look "complete". I gotta find some pipe, i want one too
