Added a Slipstreamer Scoot 50 windshield to the Carino Big comfort difference in this colder weather. I don't know if I'll use it when the weather gets warmer but for cold weather it is great. An added bonus, it raised the mirrors about 2 inches and I can see past my elbows to what's actually behind me. Phil

You might want to use it year around, it will help keep the bugs off you too, they also add top end speed usually.

Very nice, where did you find that Phil? Could you show a picture of how you mounted it close up? Looks like a good solution for the cold weather!

Yeah Gary, I was worrying over the fuel pump and forgot to tell you about this. I got the windshield from Powersports Superstore thru Amazon.com (best price). It uses the mirror mounting points and raises the mirrors about 2 inches. I'll get a pic in the morning. Major improvement for cold weather riding. I'll be testing it in the morning - 25 miles at 22 degrees.
Phil
P.S. moved the fuel pump - definite improvement over the OEM pump - thanks

Gotcha, very nice, I like the fact it raises the mirrors, all I see with mine are my elbows. I did a search and found the windshield for $88.00, did you pay less than that?

Looks nice, how strong are the mirror mounts, looks like a potential for a lot of stress at the mount.

Gary, that's the one, $88 and it's nice to be able to see whats behind you.
Rebel, seems to be sturdy enough, there is a little flexing but so far so good. today's ride was 24 miles at 40 mph and a 15-20mph breeze (mostly head-on) with no problems. If there's a problem, I'll post back and let everyone know.
Leadsled, Walmart automotive has a small MC/ATV section, made for atvs, brand name is Stearns, $20. They do help keep fingers from going numb. With those shields, ski mittens and some HotHands, I was fairly comfortable at 27 degrees and 40 mph.

Well, after 2 weeks the windshield is holding up pretty well. There is a slight bit of slippage running at 45 with strong wind gusts and sharp bumps. I'll have remove the plastic around the handlebars, replace the chinese screws and see what can be done. Visibility in the rain with oncoming headlights is POOR. I contacted Slipstreamer and they suggested their cleaner/polisher or McGuire's Mirror Glaze should have the same effect as rainx so I'll be checking that out as well.
Later, Phil

The switch housing is not held in position by the screws. There is a small hole in the handlebar and a boss on the housing. As we can see, the boss isn't up to supporting the windshield. I removed the raised section and put a shallow groove in it, JB Welded a short section of 1/4" bolt where the boss is supposed to be (sorry no pic). It fit right up, now if the JB Weld holds up it should work. Phil P.S. Is JB Weld available in a putty form

JB Weld is good stuff. I'd still want as much reinforcement as possible for it.

The reinforcement seems to be working. It may have been a defect in the switch housing because the right side housing is OK. An observation: For all weather and night riding, a shorter windshield (one you can look over rather than thru) might be a better choice. Dark, rain and some bonehead with hi-beams on can really mess with visibility.
