I agree. I love the back ground. My brother is my roomie and I am proud to say he was in the Navy for 20 years and he retired in 2004. He is my hero in so many ways.

You are welcome.
I'm just a couple years younger than you but remember the guys coming back from 'Nam. I was never in that group that did those things. When I was in college back then the guys I seemed to have the most in common with we the ones going to school on the G.I. bill. I am however glad that I did not have to go over there. The examiners at the induction center looked at me and stamped me 4-f.

Sorry I am late with my post, had some health issues, but anyways:
Thanks for the support!
As a Vietnam Era, Lybia, Desert Storm disabled vet your thanks is greatly appreciated. In the last few years, Support for the American Military has taken a fantastic turn for the better, unlike in the 60/70's where it was non-existant (for lack of a better term).
God Bless the USA

To coin a phrase " No truer words have ever been spoken", Big Guy!
The MEDIA never could get things right and frankly I doubt if they ever will! Hanoi Jane is a perfect example of that. Most of you would know her as Jane Fonda, most of "us" refer to her also as "Jane Fonda, the original traitor bitch." I have a patch on the back of my leathers saying that and there are a lot of times I am asked what it means. I tell whoever, that in 1972 Jane Fonda visited Vietnam, she openly praised the North Vietnamese, she took photos with the enemy dressed in their uniforms, she called American Military Leaders "war criminals" and made comments to American POWs like "Aren't you sorry you bombed babies?" & "Are you grateful for the humane treatment from your benevolent captors?" . Most of this was broadcast back to the United States! There is other information on the things she did, that she now denies, but has since "made an apology" for her actions. I could go on and on with this subject but will let it be, I will say that when I attended the USAF Senior Academy she was a topic that we studied and believe it or not most of what was written is true and for whatever reason is being pushed as "Myths or Rumor" by the media since she was nominated for one of the "100 Women of the Century".
There is a mass of information on the net if anyone is interested in reading it.
I hope and pray that none of our Military EVER goes through this type of disrespect again!!!!!
One more thing, a few years ago in Brandon Missouri, there was a parade for returning Vets from the Middle East, the organizers decided to include Vietnam Vets, most of which refused, the two highest reasons for refusal were " this is their honor, not ours" and "you didn't honor us when we came home, you don't need to honor us now".

Jim,
I know vets that feel the same way you do. I am of the same opinion. The Hollywood elite think they know everything and are without a doubt correct in everything. They stand on the first amendment and trash the rest of them, at the same time want to deny the same freedom of speech to opposing opinions. This is not what the Vets have fought and died for.
We have become a country of give me people wanting to have everybody else pay for what we as individuals want, instead of earning it on our own. In a few more years it is my opinion that our "Land of the free" will not be so instead we will be the land of the serfs working for the ruling class and we will have become what we once fought against.

As i once told a very vocal protestor of the Vietnam War, if it wasn't for our Military, you wouldn't have the right to say what you want without fear of being shot. There are to many Countrys that do just that!
Freedom of Speech is what a lot of folks hide behind to spread their own propaganda. Some even classified the burning of an American Flag as freedom of speech, if this is Freedom of Speech, then when I kick their ass for doing so, that also becomes Freedom of Speech!!!!!!

the one thing that gets me is it seems like thanking a vet has become some thing that is being over done
every time you go to an event they take time to have all the vets stand up to me i would sooner have a simple we would like to thank all vets in attendance today
yes i am proud i served and did my time but it gets old being asked to stand at every event its old and too huggy feally for me all i did was my duty nothing special just what i had to do for our country
i sure hope what has happend in the past never happens again i was a dependant at the time and we almost never left base becuse we and the service members were treated
