I don't think any of us who served was seeking any great recognition. It was our duty and we did it. JMK - maybe the whole issue is to get people to look around them at those events and say a thanks to all of us. Yeah most of us would prefer to be there kind of silent but to me, it still feels kind of good to now that ALL vets are being recognized. Not like they were in 1970 when I got home from Nam. Parades - it was 1986 before they had a homecoming parade for Nam vets here. Most of the young men from our county served then.
Believe me - we made a major effort to welcome my son and his troops when they got home from Iraq.

it was like some of the public was blaming the kids in the military for the war. It still pisses me that hanoi jane was never charged and tried for the aid and comfort she gave the enemy. in fact it pains me to see she is still alive and well period. I hope most of us are still alive when she croaks so a few can p*** on her grave. I got off active duty in 63 just before that war was really heating up. john

Some think it is overkill to have the Vets stand or be recognized during functions but, I for one don't! I personally think it is F'ing fantastic that it is being done now, finally some notice for the tough jobs that our young men and women in uniform face everyday while in harms way, not like it was during the 60s and 70s.
