perhaps you should email him, or at least send him a PM, also an A9 is pretty much what most do use and are happy with the performance, you can consider that, Kliff put an A9 in the motor he built for me, but then it is ported and polished too, as well as some custom carb work ..... And springs.... ;D

i vote for a anual pilgrimage to kliffs house ......... whos with me ?? hey kliff ........ how bigs your yard and ummmmmmmm how many tents ya think we can fit there? I'm in... scooter summer camp perhaps. Arts/crafts are replaced with porting and polishing.

Kliff put an A9 in my motor he did a total rebuild on so I think it is safe to say it is the cam he prefers for a scooter that is ridden as a daily rider.
The spring question, I wondered too about how a shortened stock spring is better than a regular stock spring, then it dawned on me that he is shortening the inner spring to match the after market outer spring. THe outer spring comes from a maker of racing parts and has higher standards than the Chinese do accross the board, better material and more durable, engineered to keep the valves working better.

Yeah I like the A-9 for dailey drivers and long distance engines, and the A-12 for all out HP, that can still be enjoyed on a day to day basis.
All of the "A" series cams have agressive ramp angles, with the A-12 the most agressive I've seen....I haven't gotten a 13, 14, or 15 yet though. The ramps angles alone make it a NOISEY cam. That unfortunately can mask the rattle of spring coil bind. CB can only be found by looking, and measuring...or play it safe and change springs. With these Chinese engines, the QA on heads from one plant to another is out of this world. I've measured spring within .003" of bind on STOCK cams, and cams with coil clearances of .030"+ on an A cam... I quit trying to rationalize. I measure every combo I use, even the pure stockers. And on those, it has not been unusual for me to shorten both inner and outer OEM springs. In a bench, no load rev test I did, those springs did NOT float at 10K rpm. I openned it up to verify no piston to valve contact. That is an abusive test, and I try to keep a junker engine around, for just such experimentation. I'll try shorty stockers on an A on day this Winter, for all the cheapskates, like me, out there.
Dammit....rambling again....."A" cams are noisey. do not experiment with valve gaps to quieten them down. I adjust at .005" int, and .006" exhaust. Your engine will live longer, even if it is noisey. Deal with it. If you want quiet, leave it stock.

After one buys the new $37 springs from you Kliff, is it a relatively easy plug/play install on an otherwise stock setup?
I always feel like I'm asking stupid questions to you guys...

i ended up just taking a chinese 3/8 drive 11/16 socket butting a notch in it on the nut side used a c-clamp that the lil flatpart was missing on and it fit right into the square drive part of the socket , it was a lil cumbersom but did the job and i can still use the c-clamp as a c-clamp ok i know clamps are cheap but im usaly broke lol

I've bought cheap c-clamps out of the bargain bins you sometimes see around the check counter they usually run about three bucks if I remember correctly. You don't need a high dollar one to make this tool. Using the correct tool makes the job a lot easier. Unfortunately if you don't have money, it is illegal to just take one.
Kuzi, how about showing us your socket conversion.

I consider it easy, like Doug said, remove the head, pull the springs qith a compressor, re-lap the valves while you got it apart, do a little "bowl work," rehape the ports, match the intake manifold.....then put it all back together. But at least, lap the valves while you have the chance. Air cooled engines are hard on valve seats and faces.....if it's apart, lap 'em. I've got one completed set on hand right now. Thought Doug in SD wanted them, and was gonna PP me, so I could have shipped them yesterday. But as of yet, no PP. So tomorrow, I'm gonna put 2 more sets together, and I have materials coming for 3 more sets. But by 4;00pm tomorrow, I should have 3 sets ready to go.

Anyhoo, I sent the money
Marine. The new cam is not what I would call plug and play. But From what I have seen you do, you can totally do it. Hell I did it!
A valve removal tool would be nice. I did it without, but it was a bear
My experience with the A12 was very positive. I gained about 5-7 mph, but most importantly for me I gained torque going up hills.
Don't you have access to the base garage? They surely have all the tools you need
