OK guys, next week, I'll do a full photo pictorial on how I put these things together. You can save a few bucks and do it yourself, or I can help you out(there is a little home work involved) for nominal donations and postage.
Be patient, and hopefully by Monday evening, I'll have it all photo documemnted, vendor links, and part numbers, with instructions posted. At the rate I'm going, I thought I'd just share it, then those that can will, and the few that can't will be able to seek help from me or any other Rebel out there that can. Rebel helping Rebel.
I don't care how far or how many sites the info filters outtoo, but please, remember, this came from ScooterRebels....
Welcome aboard Doug, I'll have it all posted up next week, not really hard at all.

Any news Kliff?
My engine is back together, but I am jones'n to put the A12 cam back in it.
How much would you charge to port and polish a stock head for a stock carb?

Doug,
If you are not redlining your RPMs, you should have not problems with the A12 cam, really.

Rebel Kliff is my guru. when I mentioned that I was doing this he was pretty adamant about replacing the stock springs. When Kliff tells me I can put an A12 in a stock engine I will do it. You are not the first to to say that you don't need new springs. But then there are many who told me I would regret putting in an A12. I've decided to err on the side of safe. Believe me, I am sorely tempted, but Im gonna wait for Kliff to give me the yay or nay Well Kliff ?

perhaps you should email him, or at least send him a PM, also an A9 is pretty much what most do use and are happy with the performance, you can consider that, Kliff put an A9 in the motor he built for me, but then it is ported and polished too, as well as some custom carb work .....

Alrighty Then.... here is the secret revelation, behind what I have been doing with springs, and where I am presently. I have yet another design I want to adapt to our needs, and I'll be working on those this winter. but this is where we stand now. The basis for my prootypes, comes from Comp Cams, part # 961-1, it takes two... www.compperformancegroupstores.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CC&Product_Code=961-1&Category_Code=SPRNGSOCombined with this we will use a modified/shortenned stock inner spring, and a modified stock retainer. Bunches of pics, so enjoy... This is a stock inner, compared to a stock CompCams 961 outer Now we need to trim about 2/3 turn, off the OEM inner... I use a roto zip with a flex shaft...think Dremel on Steroids....LOL, and a cut off wheel. Now we need to close the end back up. A small butane torch works best, as it gets hot enough, and is controlable. We only want heat about 1/2" from the end, and only enough to do the job, just barely starting to glow,,,barely! Then wit some needle nose pliers start sqeezing the coil back down to the lower coil. See what we've done... But let's put a professional finish on that spring, not just a cut and bend, let's make that new end flat, like the one we cut off... To the sander... and in just a few secnds....voila! Here's an idea of what we've done, length wise, the inner and outer are almost the same. Now the upper retainer. The CC outer is slightly larger O.D., so to support it, we'll expand the top retainers diameter. The lower steel spring seat will help with this, but may need to be slightly openned up to "snap on" the top retainer. No loose fit here. Polish a second or 2, and check, polish, and check. I use a fine orange stone, at about 15,000rpm for this. before final assy, I mis a small batch of JBWeld, and put a minimal bead on the retainer, snap the spring seat in place, and wipe off the excess... That's it, there's no more mystery, with shipping, about 15.00 for outer springs, a couple of bux for another pair of lower retainers, say 22.00 in materials and shipping, and an hours time. These are still prototypes, and I will be experimemnting with some others, but so far, so good. Another set completed and ready to go.
