its not running, the clutch is still engaged which is causing the engine to keep turning.

speedy hit the nail on the head this is why when you do plug chops you cant coast to a stop like you would on a bike with a clutch

Ya, if you do the same thing with a bike that has a clutch you will here it turning over until you pull the clutch in.
Welcome Speedy

Heya Speedy.
If your trying to do a plug chop hit the kill switch and stand on the brakes. That's about as close as you can get to the real thing. If you hit the throttle, and the carb. has an accelerator pump, it might load the cylinder and backfire on you. Just don't hit the gas until you re-start the engine.

I thought the exact same thing was happening to me. I could have sworn the motor was still running. I tried it again and listened more closely and I could hear the air pulses going through the freewheeling motor.

If the oldone is working why did you feel the need for a new one.

I would guess it's an issue with the kill switch pin. Bad connection where it isn't getting grounded.
TERRA, the air pulses I was talking about was the air still being pumped through the engine when the transmission is engaged. The crankshaft is still spinning and air is being pumped through the system. Just no spark and no explosions.

Greg At first I was thinking kill switch too but when he said after putting the stock CDI back in it worked normally, I scratched my head. I have never heard of a CDI doing this but strange things happen. They are pretty cheap, I'd order another and see what happens myself.

I thought the pin on the CDI connector itself may have faulty soldering inside it, or the wiring harness isn't making a good connection.
Yeah, I've found places where I can buy CDI's for less than $2 each. Not sure I trust the quality though.
