I've had some more conversation with Matt at Ecotrons, and I am going to test a few more things he suggests to make this thing work after all. As I have a 2nd scooter to get around on these days the EFI project is just sitting in the garage and I might as well work on it. Matt is very attentive and supportive, I wish one could get this kind of support from other vendors...
The electrical power drain issue will have to be put on hold for now, I'll concentrate on resolving the engine cold start and power loss issues.

Nope, thats not it for me. I have had a LED brake light for several years now and although I agree it may be a possible solution for the charging issue it has no impact on the way the EFI works. Once I get the engine running reliably I'll look into the charging issue. For now, I am relying on a well-charged 7Ah battery.

ok then....
lean = not enough fuel
it sounds like a low fuel pressure issue, since in this simple system, the injector is either open or closed
low fuel pressure suggests that the culprit is either a bad fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pump.

I have had my suspicions about the regulator too, but I don't know how to test it safely... The pump seems fine though. I just sent some new engine data logs to Matt, hope to hear back from him soon with some ideas on what I should tune.
