dwild62 posted: Here's MY 2009 ICE BEAR PST150-11 SUPER TRIKE. Now have about 350 miles on it. Runs Great!! I don't know about the other ICE BEAR Models (-11, -H, -9) or the Roketa trike models, mine is the -11 model, mine has a 4 valve head, a little less restricted exhaust system, a little less restricted air filter right at carb, & a full 115 mm variator, so I believe the model -11 trike was in fact given at little more leash then some of the other scoots.. The ICE BEAR in my opinion was very well engineered, though there's still room for improvement, like a oil filled differential, instead of grease filled, the mounting of the passenger seat hing, chrome option for front forks instead of chrome decoration for the forks.. But over all pretty nice machine.. I think it's a standard 157QMJ short case w/ a recoil starter on the CVT cover, & gear box w/ reverse attached to the final on the CVT, then chain from final to the differential on rear axle, so actually the CVT becomes the primary drive, & the chain becomes the secondary drive.. It's not a bad set up, accept for the grease filled differential, which would be better if it was an oil filled differential. I've been Trying to figure out if there's any ATV's or carts w/ this set up, for parts selection.. I haven't made any progress in that area, because when looking at just pictures you can't see enough to compare.. Need to be able to see individual pics under the plastic or see break down images of the ATV's & carts..

Well, they are making changes on the Trikes all the time. Mine which is the PST150H came with a smaller Variator and the Fan was a #115. Like Dwild62 mentioned the Exhaust Is more like a performance exhuast. The Air Filter is really not restricted, it not a box it's an Open Funnel cut an an angle with a side vent and you can see the foam filter. So I think Dwild62 Trike is able to do 55 mph already with the Variator being a #115 already matching the Fan. Dwild62 what does the specs say for max hp and at what rpms.

dwild62 posted; Well, Alleyoop has the "-H" model, I have to the "-11" model. There is some variation between the two. Like I said in another forum or another post (I don't remember which), the spec write up varies a little. The specs I have, say's 65mph + depending on riders weight, I did see a write up that said 48mph + depending on riders weight, & also a write up that said 55mph + depending on riders weight.. I am familiar w/ MPH, KPH, & CPH (Chinometers /H), because I have 2 Longbo Alien 150's, & had to calibrate the speedo's on them.. I have the digital dash, (though that doesn't mean it's 100% accurate ether), I haven't clocked it yet w/ GPS or another vehicle yet. Dash say's it's going about 60 mph on average, 65 mph depending on air currents (you know like brushing a dog), near 70 mph down hill.. Only been taking it up to the top in short spurts, as part of the break in process, last 50 miles, now has 350 miles.. I believe if feels about like my 2 Longbo Alien 150's, as far as speed. It feels to me like it's doing 55 mph - 60 mph depending on the air currents. I'm comfortable saying that's about as honest as I can be at the moment.. Let me put it to you another way, on my Longbo Alien 150's, I get 60 - 65 mph (depending on conditions) 1 up, I get 55 - 58 mph 2 up, thats 250 lb scoot + 260 lb me + 190 lb wife = 700 lb, at even say 55 mph.. So w/ 400 lb ICE BEAR TRIKE + 260 lb me = 660 lb, so why not 55 mph +!! Of coarse this isn't up hill.. In my opinion the real weight factor has a big affect going up hill, & wind conditions, & launch speed (depending on CVT set up), unless you plan to enter in a race.. Mine has great launch speed, as it sounds like Alleyoop does as well.. I was going to ask Alleyoop about his variator, cause I know he said he changed his variator, but I forgot about it.. I to plan to change my variator (maybe), I checked my variator, & it is a FULL 115 mm variator (both sides), but I might swap it out for a 115 mm Prodigy Ventilated Performance variator, (I have 2 new ones, still in the package w/ 11 gr rollers).. So there you go, that's where me & my ICE BEAR stand.. I can say, when I tried 2 up on the ICE BEAR (850 lb total), it didn't like that much.. It was like the BEAR was saying "GET YOUR FAT AZZES OFF MY BACK, OH PLEASE, PLEASE!! AND HURRY THE HECK UP ABOUT IT, YOU"RE BREAKING MY BACK"!! ;D ;D ;D

Hi Dwild62, Very nice job!! And you found a good spot to mount it as well. Question David SR. I noticed you too the link off the chain to get it out of the way. What do you use to undo and redo the chain link. I see neither of us can fall asleep:) Thanks Alleyoop
Almost forgot, usually every Saturday if its not raining I go and get the paper Sunday paper on my Trike. This morning was no different, I took the long way around going out the back of the subdivision got the paper and decided I should go down a couple miles to Auto Zone and get 80w90 gear oil because I haven't changed that yet. Well I am cranking down the main street doing 35-40 keeping up with traffic when all of a sudden the engine starts to loose power. I pulled off to the side and it died, I hit the starter and it started right up and decided to bring it home and not take a chance having to push it home. On the way back home coming to a stop sign again the enigne started to loose power. I stopped at the stop sign the engine died again but it started right up and I made it home.
It felt like a fuel problem so I opened up the seat and took the cover off and looking around for loose hoses I saw that my Air/Fuel Mixture Screw WAS MISSING!!! I said crap now I have to get a Mixture Screw, but then I spotted the little spring by the Starter Motor so I got my magnet rod and pulled it out. Kept looking saying to myself well maybe the Screw also is around ther someplace and Sure enough it was under the Carb by the Starter Motor. Got lucky, I must have set it to rich out and thats why it vibrated itself out. It is now 1 1/2 Turns out and is running like a champ. So watch that Mixture Screw:) Alleyoop

als01seville Look at the chain, there's a master link.. I just use a flat screw driver, using the screw driver to push the end of clip, clip will slide loose, the just pull the link apart. Reverse the procedure to reassemble..

Dwild posted The verdict is in, the BEAR'S speedometer is a genuine Digital CHINOMETER!! ;D I hooked up the GPS today & clocked the BEAR, the final result is about a 10 mph difference .. But, I'm sure you already knew that.. So, it appears that the BEAR is really doing 50 - 55mph, & 60mph on the down hill.. So it looks like I won't get many speeding tickets, but might get a few impeding tickets.

Hi Dwild62, No, you didn't lie, your were scammed by the Digitial Speedo:) Mine is mechanical and the outside are KMH and inside it has MPH in Blue and it is very accurate like I said verified many times over with the Radar stands they put up around here as well as with my wife driving alongside me.
Thats why I questioned your intial MPH runs and said it was hard to swallow. You got me thinking what is SO different from yours and mine. Like I said Stock it was doing 49.? and thats all. Now with the Racing Variator its doing 53 so I picked up 4 mph. NOW I AM NOT JEALOUS:). But I still would like to reach 55mph maybe the milled down Boss and Iridium Plug and the Performance Coil will get me there. Be Save David Sr. besides the Trikes already move out smartly with the 150cc(149.6) and their weight. I think of them as Touring/Crusizing fun with just enough speed to keep up with Urban Traffic. als01seville Ya, you're right about touring machine, for it's just a joy & vary comfortable to ride, well w/ warmer clothing or warmer weather anyways.. I did another 50 mile ride yesterday, to go see a buddy of mine (I use scooter to go visiting cause it only costs a buck vs. $5.00 - $10.00), temperature was 43 deg. & windy, & that was the coldest 43 deg. I've felt in a while..
I get a lot of people checking the BEAR out, & give the thumbs up, & asking questions about it.. When I go to the Indian reservation I get people swarming around me & my trike..
Now as far as improving the speed, as we talked about a little in jrryan's thread, as far as changing the gearing of sprockets of the chain drive.. Being we don't really have a sprocket size option at this time, we should consider or look into the final gear option, because that is available.. The worst part of that thought, is that we need to open up the final to count the teeth.. Sprockets would be cleaner & easier, but it look like that option is a ways down the road..
I also found some high grade D.I.D. O-ring roller chain for like $40 - $80. I believe that's going to be the fist thing I change..
Also, I'm going to get rid of the exhaust springs, I like the idea of the springs, but I can see the spring loops are already wearing through, at 500 miles, I figure they'll be worn all the way through at about 1,000 - 1,500 miles.. I'm going to put a 2 1/2" stainless steel band clamp in place of the springs, which are made for this type of application.. Cost, about $10 - $20..

Well, I'm being told that the ICE BEAR does not have a 4 valve, from valve cover it looks like a 4 valve head, but is a 2 valve head.. I'm being told the these 157QMJ engines in these ICE BEAR trikes are what are referred to as GY7 engines, used in scooters w/ 16" wheels & go karts.

Hi Dwild62, I looked at my head and it is a 2 Valve head. I believe if its a 4 Valve head the cover has 4 screws holding it down and the 2 valve head has two. I read that some where or from someone on this forum. I know you can get a 4 valve CY66 motor with internal reverse for around $600.00 but it also puts out 10.5Hp. Alleyoop

als01seville So what do you think about the idea of up gearing the final for a little more top speed in the BEARS? It appears that this is about option available right now..
Hi Widl62, Yea that could be done, you have to replace the Drive Shaft which has bigger spline gears and then change the secondary gear to a smaller one. There is a Video for a 70MPH upgrade doing this. It is not that difficult to do. Here is the Video.

als01seville As far as the 2 bolt valve cover & the 4 bolt valve cover, is the 2 bolt valve cover is the GY6 b engine, then you have the 4 bolt valve cover which is used on the 2 & 4 valve head. I now can see the difference between the valve cover we have & the 4 valve head valve cover. The head we have on the BEARS is 2 valve, but it's a deeper (thicker) head, which is what they're calling a GY7 engine, which has a different shape valve cover then on the standard GY6 engine..
David Sr.
I have never heard of a GY7, do you know what the difference is between a CY6 and a CY7? and where did you hear of this. Alleyoop
als01seville Scooter Dynasty told me this when I was talking to them about replacing the head on the BEAR.. They said "this is a 157QMJ GY6, also known as a 157QMJ GY7, this engine is use only in scooters w/ 16" wheels, trikes, & Go-Karts. When I was looking for a new head for my "08 Longbo, one website I was looking at, had a complete head at a vary good price, but I didn't buy it because they said it only fit the GY7 engine. So to sum it up, the GY7 engine is actually just another type of GY6 engine, like GY6a & GY6b.. So instead of nick naming it a GY7, why don't they just call it a GY6c engine.. This head is deeper. This engine is a short case, but I think the final part of case where the gear box bolts up is different than a standard short case..

Hi Dwid62, in one of your previous entries you mentioned the following: I'm going to put a 2 1/2" stainless steel band clamp in place of the springs, which are made for this type of application.. Cost, about $10 - $20.. Where do you get those do you have a link? Thanks Bud Alleyoop als01seville There's another style that I'm still searching for.. There's a higher quality one, similar to the one from Global Industries, I've see used on exhaust systems for big trucks, that I'm still looking for. I also think there's one that has features of both of these that I listed here. I'm search a little more, because at $10 - $20 a pop, I'd like to make the right choice, though I believe ether of these 2 would work.. Don't be afraid to throw in your 2 sense if you like.. www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NO....amp+-+Universalwww.globalindustrial.com/gcs/prod.....campaignId=T9LDwild62, I like the Global one, I don't know about yours but mine leaks at the connections and I hear the puff, puff from it. Is there material like the rubber bands that some of the Muffler Clamps come with available to be able to put under the clamp all the way around to silence the leaking there. Alleyoop als01seville There's the rubber that they use w/ the muffler hanger straps, they put on the 2 wheel scoots.. I know those mufflers gets pretty darn hot, but I'm not sure if it's as hot as the head pipe gets on the trike or not. I'm not sure if it would stand the heat or not.. What I'm trying to find is similar the one at Global Industries, a little wider, to put around where the pipe butts the muffler, so that part of the clamp is on the muffler (looks like maybe 1/4" - 3/8" on muffler) then tighten. Also I've got some thin stainless steel that I think would work as shim seal or shim sleeve (what ever you might call it), to use w/ maybe the clamp from Napa. I can't do anything till the end of the month, but if I could make that work like I think it would, I could possibly cut a piece to send to you, if you don't have access to thin stainless. I think I have a couple of different gage stainless, but if not I might have to form it to, not sure I'd have to look..

Reb, What is the center of the sprocket like. There may be sprockets for motorcycles that will fit and give you a wider choice.
