UPS dropped this little parcel off Friday as well I bought it used from PFS, appears to be some sort of warranty return. There was also a slightly used crank in the box. Both the right and left cases were clean, while the center still had a fair share of road gime on it, the exhaust is wet and oily. Should be a very interesting teardown. But I need it to fab my fixtures for boring the cases to fit larger 80 & 90cc kits. But as Jeremy has already established, these larger kits have limitted life spans, I'm going to investigate cryogenic hardning of the cranks, and some way better bearings ( www.microblueracing.com/, and even the possibility of better rod needles. Of course when I get done with all this, I probably could have built a stout 59mm 160cc.... but where's the challenge in that? I also got in(sorry Jeremy, but I needed heads too) a couple of really cool 72cc kits, with large port heads, performance cams, and the 72cc piston barrel assys, at a real good price..one of those, I'll kick myself in the morning prices, if I pass this up....prices. Again, sorry Jeremy. My 18yr old nephew will be the R&D, for longevity, on his Pony50.

Sweet Kliff!
Have you considered replacing the variator too? They aren't very expensive at all, but it made a huge difference in hill climbing and general acceleration on my scoot. I installed one I bought of Carlos (Autotech), currently he wants $29 for the kit that includes 6g weights. In my opinion the kit that includes 5, 6 and 7g weights for $36 is a better buy...
I think the big difference I noticed when I replaced mine came from the different ramp angle; the drive wheel on my CVT has a 15degree ramp angle but the original variator had a ramp angle of 11degrees. It can't be good for belt life to have such different ramp angles on either side. Carlos's variator has a ramp angle of about 16degrees.
If you find the time I suggest you try to measure the ramp angles of the drive wheel and the variator. Possibly my scoot was restricted this way, and yours isn't. If you find the time, please post the angles?
/Otto

You're reading my mind Otto! I was thinking about those variators from Carlos, mainly for my 59mm engine.... But now with a favorable report from a user.... I'll order the inproved ramp angle variators for the 50 and 150.... thanks for the input!

But as always, there will be something someone wants more details on than I post...just shoot up a post, or PM, I'll do everything I can to share. Hope to see some of you guys racing soon, and maybe if I can find even minute stuff y'all can use, go for it....I ain't copyrighting anything, use what you can, refine it even more... but I seriously doubt I find anything you guys haven't already found, and solved. All my stuff is sure to be ole skool, and out of date...but I might get lucky....

Out of date and old school is the nature of these engines. To be honest I havent even split one just rebuilt top ends to the tune of about 6 a month. I look forward to what you think can be done to improve the crank berring situation.

I think Kliff is on to a couple things about improving the crank, the cryo idea should help as well as the bearings he posted about that he found, I can not remember where.

Where can I find some ceramic bearings and what is the size of the bearings on the crank of a 50. Burned up one set in my first motor and I think the ones in this one are going out. These bearings can't handle a lot of WOT with a 70 kit so I want to upgrade to better ones, I just don't know any of the specs on them.

Ceramics...here ya go. www.microblueracing.com/I think the micro blue hand assembled, micro polished will do the job....but, if not, there's always the ceramics...
