Hello all,I have a Pantera freedom 50,it will not start unless I shoot starting fluid in air box,I cleaned the carb, still no succes,so I tool ''petcock-ish'' thing off bottom of fuel tank and noticed small plastic/nylon? thing that looked to be broken,I ,'THINK'' it is part of fuel strainer, well the strainer part is GONE,all that remains is lil piece stuck in ''petcock'' also notice tank seems full of peeling paint? or something such, any tips on how to clean it out well? I guess petcock is clogged and there seems no way to clean it out,I would like to replace it with something with much larger orifice/s? and just use inline fuel filer instead, any suggestions? Thank you, notjoe

notjoe9, Welcome to the forum. Cleaning I guess you have already removed the tank. You should be able to go down to a auto parts store and get a solvent to use, if it is a metal tank you can even use something like acetone, but take any plastic parts off/out first. You might try just using some gas and see if it comes out clean. even soaking with a mixture of gas and seafoam might clean it up pretty well, seafoam cleans carbs. Then this might be a better option, Kreem a complete cleaning system is available from Kreem. www.speedsupplies.com/accessorylistingdetailpurch.asp?item=40946Or if you have the cash (not much more than the Kreem system) save yourself the trouble and go on ebay and just replace it all. motors.shop.ebay.com/__?_from=R40&_trksid=p3984.m39.l1313&_nkw=gy6+fuel+tank&_sacat=Replacing the petcock is not that big of a deal, you can go to a lawn mower repair shop and get a manual valve used in lawn mowers plumb it in and toss the vacuum controlled one. A couple guys here have done that already. If you post some pictures we might have a little better idea as to what you need. I'll look for a thread with the valve replacement done by one of the guys here. Check out this thread; scooterrebels.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=50ccscooters&action=display&thread=653&page=1/

Thanks Rebel,I took a closer look and tank was not in as bad a shape as I had previously thought ,so I decided to go with the stock petcock setup. Now I am wondering if there is anyway to test the choke?Any ideas? Thanks . Notjoe

Ya, apply 12 volts to it and you should see it move, if not get a new one.

OH man I think I almost tossed a match on it today/getting sooo veryyyy frustrated with scoot, the latest...I changed the petcock and floatbowl is completely dry after much cranking ,I began to wonder about small screw on bottom of bowl(external)near fuel in line,it is screwed all the way in tight ,I may have done this after cleaning it last time,I began to suspect this as culprit(not letting fuel into bowl)so I loosened it a bitand pretty soon LOTS of fuel was going into bowl,I had bottom off bowl at the time and it filled up fast, but with no cranking, this has me scratching my head unless it is fuel that was left in the line, but i dont know because it seemed to just keep coming/seemed like alot more than would be in line.so I tested to see if fuel was coming out of petcock with line disconnected and there was none. Question, does anyone know how far in that screw on bottom is supposed to be?I tried it in and out at various amounts and fuel kept coming out of overflow and back of carb/airbox. Please Advise I may be losing it..........

regarding choke, thank you, also I had to change the o-ring for choke and I am concerned that it isn't a perfect fit and maybe leaking air and or fuel?

I fuel is coming out the over flow, I'd suspect the needle valve having something on it, or a bad float.
If you have a bad fit on the o ring on your choke you might be able to put a little silicone sealant on it to make it not leak but you can always just put it on the outside and see if it makes it run better, a leak there would be more like a vacuum leak I think

Thanks Rebel I will try the silicone thing. The float, needle sounds right too,I will check them again. also am wondering if you know which in/out fittings on carb are which,I have the gas 'in' connected to very bottom of float bowl and am beginning to wonder if this isn't wrong, shouldn't it go on top of float bowl? But if so ,what goes to the bottom fitting?surely not the overflow. I have 3 fittings,I am guessing the one with the short hose connected to it is a breather/vent of some sort, the upper the overflow? and the lower the gas 'in'? any idea? Thanks notjoe Attachments:

Hey Rebel, thanks for the pics, yes they helped,I gave up on scooter for a bit,i just got too frustrated with it,the carb lines i figured out and just got new carb in mail yesterday. I put new carb on n scoot fired right up and ran fine ,it was getting dark and i had no lights, went out this a.m. and again it fired right up and ran fine,so i put all the plastic back on and was ready to take it for a test drive and the damn thing WILL NOT START NOW!!!!! GRRRRR any ideas?I am really near end of my rope with this.

run it with the plastic off??
Sorry, I couldn't resist.
How long did it run with the plastic off, You've made sure the fuel filter is not clogged? No vacuum lines came unplugged when you put the plastic back on.
Always double check the kill switch.
It is possible that a wire came loose.
