I just started posting on this forum, and wonder if there's enough interest in this type of scoot to merit a thread on the subject. Most of these 16" wheel scooters are very similar, enough so that many parts interchange. And they seem to be subject to the same sorts of problems. Anyway, here's my '08 Xingyue, purchased with 500 miles on it a few months ago......it's got about 2200 miles on it this morning. Here's what it looked like when I first got it. It's got a bunch of mods applied by now, mostly non-performance. I've got a similar thread running on SD, but I thought the readers here might have interest in this scoot. For a cheap ride ($900), this one is hard to beat. I'm an ex-cycle mechanic, so I couldn't keep my hands off this scoot......took it mostly apart just to check things out. No major problems with it thus far. I would like to find a reliable source for misc body/frame parts (don't need anything yet though). I'm more than willing to answer questions/post pictures/make suggestions/etc.......

I think you are the only one here with that scooter, another member that has never posted but I know personally has another 16 inch wheel scooter from Lance, a phoenix I think. Riding the 16 inch wheel give it a much more motorcycle feeling.
Post away, you might inspire somebody to buy one.

Well here goes.....I spent almost six months trying to find another 50cc scooter that was a little bigger than my Roketa MC-01-50 and fit me better. I'm about 6'4" and have trouble with the handlebars and my knees. I must have sat on/driven 50 different models. I visited dealers, and followed the local Craig's List closely. There were a few that were a little better......but I kept looking.
Eventually I became discouraged, and started paying attention to the various 150s. I had been seeing some 16" wheel scoots at the local dealers, but they were all expensive. One day this Xingyue showed up on Craig's List. I went across town and drove the thing......perfect, and the price was right. The guy even hauled it to my house that afternoon.
There's no going back.....this scooter couldn't be much better. It handles great, plenty fast for a 150, and fits me perfect. If anybody is tall....check out a 16" wheel scooter. Honda is selling one now.....big price though.
The main differences among these scoots......the expensive versions have liquid cooling, and some like the Honda have fuel injection. But I prefer the simpler design of this air-cooled Xingyue....it does have advantages over the expensive versions. You have a storage area under the seat......some of the others fill this area with electrical components, parts for the cooling system, and misc stuff. The Xingyue has a rear disk brake.....even the $4500 Honda has a rear drum. I could go on.
It's easy to tell I like this scooter.....If any of you get to ride one, don't pass up the chance. One ride sold me for sure. ;D

Finding a roomy 50cc is a hard thing to do, there are a couple that are made on a 150cc frame, and have a unique motor case that has the same motor mounts as a 150 does, but they are hard to find. Your looks a bit like the Honda SH150i .

You're right.....I did find a few 50s with the bigger 150 frame, and there was a little more leg/knee-room. Just a little though, and I only saw them at a few dealers for $1600+. Too much for a 50cc IMO. I saw a Honda SH150i recently.....nice looking, but a dead-ringer for this Xingyue. In fact, when I drove up to the Honda store and parked in front, the owner came outside. He thought I was on an SH150i, which he had just got in (hadn't sold one yet). That was funny..... That place wants $4500 plus freight and setup for the thing. That's going to be a tough sell. Searching on-line you can find a Xingyue or a BMS Pathfinder (very similar) for around $1100-$1200 shipped. If you can do your own setup, and don't mind ordering parts somewhere should you need any, that's a better deal. I've already changed jets in mine (it uses a Honda/Keihin carb) and got the jets from a Honda dealer. It's a fairly normal-looking GY6 150 engine, so those parts should be fairly easy to get. So far, so good for me.

You say it is a fairly normal looking GY6, is there any differences in it? how does it perform, whats your top speed? And you have no mods to the motor other than the jet?

The scoot has a two-bolt valve cover rather than the usual type. It has (had) a PAIR emission system (now in a box in the garage). I redesigned the valve cover vent system using a small filter from Auto Zone. I added a 92mm fan to help cool the engine compartment. I'm using a #112.5 main and a #38 pilot. And it does use a 123mm variator, rather than the normal 115mm. I weigh 230.....I've had it to a real 65mph @7200rpms, before I chickened out. The variator weights need to go a little lighter for a little more acceleration. That'll be next. It's plenty fast for me right now.

65 is lots of speed on a 150, the larger variator would be part of the reason, do you attribute the wheel size to any of that? I'm thinking finale gear ratio would be taller with taller wheels. And how did you confirm the speed? GPS?

I've passed through a bunch of the county radar warning signs at different speeds....my speedometer was right on. The single time I tried for top speed, I had a buddy following me, confirming the speed. The scoot is geared very tall.....and I'm not sure if it's just the wheel size, or the gear-box ratios. You would think it would be turning faster than 7200rpms at 65mph. The tach is red-lined at 10K...if that means anything. I suspect lowering the variator roller weights will give me better acceleration, while retaining (maybe increasing) the top speed. It should be able to turn a bunch faster than 7200. But that top speed thing is probably for somebody else to test.....I chickened out at 65 mostly because of the upright riding position. Just didn't feel right at that speed......I'm used to fast cycles with a tucked in position at high speeds. This is a scooter for the most part, with cycle wheels. I've owned a 250 Honda Elite, and a 4-speed 200cc Lambretta scooter......they also felt strange at high speeds, but I was younger then, more daring I guess. Oh....some of these scoots are reputed to have a "high-performance" GY6 engine stock. I'm not sure what that means. This scoot has a standard 24MM Keihin, and a normal looking/sounding exhaust. There is a stock paper air-filter in there, but I did remove the "restrictor" plate...or whatever they call it. I've read claims of over 70mph top end for these things.....might be true.

I'd really like to know what the difference is between this bikes 150cc gy6 and your run of the mill 150cc scooter, other than the wheel size. Seems the smaller wheel 150's have a lot more trouble getting to the speed you are getting to.

^^^Hard to say about that.....I haven't had the head/cylinder off, so I can only guess about this part. The carb, air cleaner, and exhaust are stock items for sure. And I weigh around 230....the top speeds I have achieved were done on level ground, in an upright sitting position with a trunk and tail-bag on the scoot. (and I probably carry 20lbs of tools/stuff under the seat). It's impressive for sure.....I've ridden a few other 150 GY6 scooters, and they did feel more sluggish , but I never tried any top speed runs with them. I'm not riding on the interstates around here, and there are only a few state roads with a long-enough straight section to get a top speed reading. But like I said....other people have reported 65+ mph with this model.

I have no problem believing the top speed. I've had Honda Trail 90's up to 55. Do you know if the case on your bike is longer than the regular 150 gy6 long case?
