I am looking to buy my wife a 250 scooter. I have heard all the good and bad about scooters from China but decided to go on the advice of the folks that ride them day in and day out. I need suggestions, links, info, dealers etc. from you guys. I ride a touring bike (750cc) and she would like to ride with me but cannot get the hang of shifting, balance and cluth all at the same time. So we decided on a scooter. Help us out here folks, okay?

the chinese 250 has a motor that is either a clone of the honda Helix motor, or a Linhai/yamaha cloned motor. first when getting one of these, if you live in California you need to be very aware that you need a CARB certified scooter, otherwise you have a large paperweight. Check out this link for a reference on prices. www.powersportsmax.com/index.php/cPath/38_95

I am in Louisiana so no problem with the carbs. She does not ride a lot but wpould like to ride with me mostly on trips of 100 miles or less. The scooters you showed me look good and definitely fall in the price range. Anyone else?

I like this BMS scooter. Correct me if I'm wrong Rebel, it's a Linhai/Yamaha 257cc clone. A bit more than others but this includes shipping. I've never bought anything from these folks but I'm considering one of these. The price goes up a hundred bucks when you add it to the cart. I'd give them a call instead of ordering it online. scootersus.com/bmsTBX260.htmlRD

You are right I believe. I rode a Tank version of that scooter quite a while back, at an idle it seemed to be rough running, after the RPMs got up a bit it smoothed out. hawkeye, if you look at the motor on these the Honda clone has an upright cylinder and the Linhai/yamaha has a horizontal one. Seems the honda clone is usually a bit cheaper then the L/H is. I also seem to think it has some cheaper aprts available for hot rodding it, but then the L/H has a 300cc version out there too. In my opinion the power difference in the 244cc (Honda clone) and the 257cc, is not going to be enough to notice and the one to get is this one because it has 13 inch wheels www.powersportsmax.com/index.php/cPath/38_95/fid/60the scooter in the middle had a design flaw when they first came out, the cooling was not good enough and some overheating problems were reported, they may have been fixed. The one on the far left is the most expensive, it is a L/H motor. But the biggest issue is going to be the PDI and you have to replace all the fluids because the worst thing with the Chinese is the coolant, oil, gear oil and brake fluid. Next you need to make sure it has high quality hoses, the electrical connections are good, the tires valve stems are replaced, the nuts bolts and screws are tight and then you will have a better experience with the scooter.

I bought a MC-13-250( Bali 250).. My wife is 5 ft tall. She can not ride it. So I got her a Yamaha Zuma 49cc. So it took a while for her to get use to it. So like she would forget where the brakes were. She crashed into our mail box, tries to take on a gas station pump, ect.. Well, now she is use to it, but wants a Rebel 250cc Honda motorcycle. She could reach the ground flat footed. Bought my 250cc scooter from extreme-scooters.com..

The Rebel 250 might be a great bike for her. The seat is a bit uncomfortable for the men I've talked to that ride them so they usually make modifications to it, but they are very reliable bikes.

My wife is 5' 4" and tearing up the road on her Rebel. She's closing in on 5,000 miles since we bought it in September of 2008. One day she took it on a 210 mile ride and came in fine. A little stiff from such a long day, but able to walk without a limp.

Ike,
I've seen that trike on the web, it is interesting, I have not heard anybody say that they own one.
The motor is from a scooter runs to a jackshaft and then a chain to the rear drive wheel. It is a water cooled motor I do not know if it has the CN 250 or the Linhai/Yamaha motor. Given the extra weight and mechanical parts in the front end, I doubt it goes as fast as a regular 250cc scooter. Nice looking knock off of the T-Rex reverse trike though, the price is good for all that technology.
