Correct me if I'm wrong... cause chemistry is far from my strong suit. But isn't NITROGEN an inert gas... a flame retardent...something that extinguishes fires?
While thinking that question over....severral of us are already less than enthusiastic about ethanol in our gas.....but now SHELL adds Nitrogen to it's premium gas?!?!
I don't know how that stuff performs in a larger engine, but my little 150 doesn't like it. Within 5 miles from leaving the pump, anything over 6000rpm, felt like she'd gone super lean. NO power, surging.....pitiful.
When I got home I checked EVERYTHING....no air leaks, crimped lines, NOTHING. Ride under 6000rpm, fine. Needed more gas today, filled up at the local Kroger grocery store with premium... 5 miles from the gas pump.....I'll bounce the the rev limitter with the slightest down hil, and pull 7750 rpm on flat roads...all in 99F temps, with 95% humidity. Shell just lost this customer. Their premium, and my lil onefiddy, just don't plat well together.... she like the cheap stuff from the grocery store, without all the fancy additives.

Shell isn't adding nitrogen to gasoline...they are adding nitrogen to the detergent they add to the gasoline.

nitrogen with an oxide add is very popular for boosting power, ever here of nitrous oxide? Or am I wrong there.

Correct. Nitrous Oxide is one HELL of a power adder. Maybe I just don't understand what Shell is saying, or what they are doing....but I do know their "nitrogen" enriched premium, alo with 10% ethanol, will not turn over 6000rpm in my silver scootin, but cheap Kroger Premium, and she run's like a scalded ass dawg again. $0.35 per gallon cheaper too! Oh yeah....1.1 gal of the Shell stuff went 51 miles. My normal for 1.1-1.2 gallons of Kroger premium from Kroger, is 85-92 miles.

now they just need to start selling nitro methane at the pump ...as long as they sell rebuild kits at every gas station. ;D Not to mention it costs something like $80/gallon for pure nitro.

Used to spend 20+ on 20 to 30% nitro for RC cars. When that stuff went over $30 a gallon i hung that hobby up

I wish we would get E85 around here. I know a lot of scooter owners aren't fond of ethanol in fuel, but it makes a nice pump gas for boosted cars. I was excited when the news of E85 first came, now years later I haven't seen it at 1 gas station in my area. I looked it up and the nearest station is about 1hr30min from me, the next is 2 hrs. I have a hard time even getting my hands on C12 or C16 locally. Unless I'm lucky and a powersports dealer has some around, it's an hour away to get those. 1 station 45min away used to sell Sunoco GT100 at the pump, they discontinued that over a year ago.

The good news is that wholesale gas prices are down around $0.20 off their highs a week or so ago. The bad news is there may yet be a pink slip in your future. And that's just the way it is.
