Years ago a good friend of mine was telling me of a time when he worked for the old L & N Railroad. He had just graduated from high school and he went to the L & N to fill out a job application. Sure enough, a few weeks later they called him in for an interview. All went well at the interview and he was hired.
His first day of work he was called into the personnel office to discuss his benefits. The personnel manager spoke with him of the usual things, vacation days, health, and life insurance. Then he asked him if he wanted fire insurance. My friend was a bit befuddled by this question and asked the manager if fires were a common thing on the railroad. The manager replied, "O no, not that kind of fire. It's for if you get fired from the job". It turned out that any time you made a mistake, ANY MISTAKE, the railroad fired you for two weeks and then hired you back. The insurance was so you would get paid while you were fired. LOLOL

So who was the insurance carrier, I think that would be one insurance worth buying.

I here ya Rebel. Ya got me. I think back in 1960 the railroad carried their own insurance or perhaps the federal gov. I'll have to ask him next time I see him.
