50cc head R&D.... Factoid, the exhaust port turns more than 90# to exit spent gasses, probably closer to 105 degrees. The PAIR port is a flow disruptor, even if taken out of service. Let's make a 90# port... NO! still plenty of meat left in this head....how about something closer to 80 DEGREE Hmmmmm, 1 break though, in the PAIR port..... aluminum plug, all the way to the port floor! And some more material removal... Lots of rough edges, stepped cuts, and some ragged looking work, I know, but only one break through. And plenty of meat in all the other inside corners, like at the cam chain tunnel. But this is a prototype guys. I always like to cut to far now, than screw up later. This head may actually never be run. But I got a lot of info today, and looks like we might pick up as much as 10-15% more flow, than where I'm at now, still with a stock, LIGHT, exhaust valve Look for a "working sample, " or 2, to be sitting on the shelf in the MMSW real soon. 1 designed for the 85cc racer, another for a 72cc streeter.

interesting, there is enough metal there to bore new holes for the exhaust studs I take it. Looks like it will take a fairly radical change for the exhaust system angle.

I was under the impression the extra material was there just for the exhaust studs and gasket.

So, how is the progress coming on this head? Getting anxious to see what the next step is going to be and where it is headed to.

This time of year, I tend to slow down a little. Just this passed week, I actually stopped working in the shop on Sat & Sun. If dad needs something, that different, but I've been burning the candle a few too many hours lately.
Got a buch of stuff to pack, for shipment off the KLR tomorrow, but I might get a little more time on it, or the oiling system, or back to the wiring on the racer, and Nox install.... tons of stuff to do, and the Racere will be done before I start on the 650.... then it's either finish, sell as is, or strip Maxx down too......so many decisions, now Jeremy has me fondling the idea of a chassis fab for the 650 to, instead of a milder mod......
Anyone wanna come live n my shoes for a few days....I'll go fishing, and drink some Port! LOL ....but I love it, don't think I don't.

So, have you tried it out yet Dr. Frankeinscoot? Or are we still developing?

Not yet RD, you'd be surprised at how time consuming some of this can get. The exhaust worked out pretty well, the intake....scratch on head, the wait for 2 more replacements to come in! Some times you gotta push it, to see just haw thin it get's in places. "Sacrificial Parts" And even though I share a lot with y'all, the "ole skool" in me won't let me share it all. There are a few whoops that have to be jumped though, to get these things ported just so... and if I throw my money down, to destroy 3 or four heads here, and 3 or 4 more there, just so I can repeat my porting, time and again, yeilding favorable results.....
To make a long story short.....you'll never see pics of the blunders, mistakes, or R&D destruction parts... that's where I gotta say.....pay me, or go fish! LOL!
I know, I'm a terrible person......but hey, I'd like to recoup at least a fraction of what it costs looking for those little lost horse puppies..... Just last week, I finished filling 2, yeah TWO, 5 gallon buckets with 150 && 50cc head and crancase remants, all destroyed for the purpose of more HP! Unfortunately, ALL the heads were NEW, about 8 total, 2 used, 1 new left side 50cc cases, & 1, 150cc left case...
At least I had a correct valve to install in a head here recently, after waiting almost 3 weeks....it comes in with the wrong valves......sheeeeeesh! Why complain, live, learn, and pull out the appropriate inventory drawer...

Oh my god Kliff, that's a lot of wasted parts. We need to start collecting parts and sending them to you.

Yeah, but current levels of R&D are about done. Winter is here, and I want all 3 scooters rolling out the shop this spring, the 50cc racer with 2 separate and complely different power unit assy's, Madd Maxx all done for some show and go, and the "RucKLRoid 650," for fun & games, King O the Hill, etc....
I think I'll have a lively bunch, and may sell the "Silver Scootin" tracer 150, to help finance Turbo and F.I. R&D next Spring and summer, for engines of 180cc > 700cc, all in scooter frames....LOL!
I'm looking to develop reiable, turn-key engines of about 15HP/180cc and 60-125HP / 650-705cc 4 stroke singles, and possibly a smoker or 2, in the 500cc range, @ about 75HP, and some limitted production availability of the 650-705cc scoots available for sale.
Kinda some lofty goals, so I may spread them over the next 2 years.... but that's where I'm headed..... day to day usable 180cc GY6's to ridiculous streoid fed thumpers in scooter disguise...
