I stopped at a mini market on the way to work earlier this week and saw a flyer posted, I was a little surprised by the content of the poster, Lawn Mower Racing. I admit, I bought a new riding mower with a 20 horse power motor to help around my new home and it is kind of fun to ride but I never expectedto see a local lawn mower racing association.

I just googled the mini tractor pulls and some of those are very impressive. Certainly very modified mowers doing the pulls.

I've seen the mower races and pulls on the speed channel, looks like a lot of fun ! I have a John Deere self propelled, but I can run pretty fast.... not for far tho LOL

That Jake, what a man, he can make anything fly so fast it can not be documented. Kind of like an illegal alien.

The guy that does machine work for me now is big into mower pulling. He's working on building his own crankshafts and more. They do look cool with big chevron treads and chrome wheels for some reason. I know about racing, but I haven't seen any local. I painted flames on my old mower and used to do wheelstands with it. I broke the front suspension and had to weld it back together, then kept right on doing wheelies. I'm not too bright sometimes. It finally got to the point that it wouldn't steer much at all and the deck was screwed up (from cutting grass and rust, not from landing wheelies) so I put it out in the yard for free and some Mexicans picked it up. That was maybe a month ago. I miss it. lol I had thought of stripping the deck from it and some other stuff and changing the drive pulleys to make it faster. Then I thought about the steering situation now at 6MPH and decided I didn't wanna die on a lawnmower.

Too late now, but I read some today on the racing ones and of course they do a complete rebuild on them, The steering is changed out completely, as is the drive system, that is dumped for a little two gear tranny, well most everything is tossed except the sheet metal and motor. it is built from the ground up including a new frame, tranny , steering system, the front suspension is changed out for one that will handle 50mph, wheels, tires, all of it goes, you can keep the seat too. If I had an old one sitting around it would be a consideration. If anybody is interested in looking at some info, the link I posted above has a lot of reading material and I also found a DIY page on building a racing lawn mower.

There are easier classes to enter. Not sure which organization does what, but I know there are some that use nearly stock mowers.

Well that's impressive. Should we include our mowers in our profiles? Sorry - Yard Machines 22" self propelled w/ 195 cc engine doesn't sound very impressive.

Someone needs to put some 28x10.50 slicks on the back of a self propelled mower.

Harry, Lawn mower race in your home state this sat (sept 19) over in Goldendale Wa.. Think I am taking the big bike out for a ride (also a MC poker run there on sat), so mower will have to stay home.. Happy scooting.. Dave
