I would like to replace the hard plastic grips on my Scooter, Killing the hands after a couple of hours (yes, I know, I'm a weenie ;D) Is there specific sizes? I'm in Phoenix area so could I replace them with something bought locally? I would like to try them out before buying... I searched and couldn't find anything in the forum about it.

lilredscoot: You should be able to use standard size motorcycle or dirtbike grips when you get them sure to check each grip because they are different hole sizes in each set ,1 for throttle and the other for the bare bar*bigger hole is for throttle* when you go them put them on be sure to use a lubricant such as dish soap,it will help them slide on the bar nice and easy and when the soap dries it will act like a glue! and your not a weenie for wanting to change grips * i hate mine *I will be changing mine in the future to foamies. i love those but dont last super long my grips eat my hands up but they work for now steps i used for replacing grips 1 cut through old grips with a razor blade and peal grip away 2 get your soap and water mix (dawn and water like for doing tires) spray the inside of grip your going to put on 3 make sure you have the correct grip either throttle side or bar side (one should be bigger than the other inside Dia. because of the throttle housing 4 place grip on bar pushing and turning until you cant go any further then with the palm of your hand, pop the grip, that will push air into the grip and balloon it a bit pushing it onto bar 5 repeat for other side the the palm of your hand trick doesn't work go back to push and turn until the grip is in place i hope this works for you some of the other rebels may a different way ,time will tell Good luck Darrin

Thank you dademoss! It was pretty easy to get the old ones off, I will take them with me to get the new ones, figured I'd go visit a few shops and see what they have. I was wondering how to put the new ones on... Searching had everything from using gas or brake cleaner to lube them up to slip on. I think I like the soap method! ;D Hopefully I'll have somethiing to post this evening about great new grips!

used to use an air hose to blow off the old grips. just put blow gun in the little hole in end of one grip and blow. then when first grip is off use a rag to wrap around the blow gun on side grip is off to blow off the other grip! john

Got new grips and put 'em on, What a difference!! ;D Had to go to 4 different shops to find what I wanted, made the mistake of saying they were for a chinese scooter at the first shop...Hm-m-m-m scooter snobs do exist! the soap trick worked great, slipped right on. We went for a ride tonight and it was quite a difference. Very civilized. Too bad they came right off, would have liked to try the air trick and watch them shoot off.

Yes, scooter snobs are out there, but not to worry that is changing bit by bit.
