Hi, I just was wondering if anybody with my bike or Roketa knows whats wrong to save me some diagnostic time. All of a sudden yesterday I went to start my scoot again. The dash lights won't come on and the starter button won't start it. But if I jump my starter relay / solenoid it will start up. But gauges are eratic and wrong . Key all of a sudden has no effect on anything ? What besides my ignition switch would do this. Or is that it, my ignition switch went bad ?

Wiring problems are a pain, loom for loose wires, bad connections, poor grounds.

Let me answer my own question for someone elses benefit mainly. It was the fuse hidden in the starter relay or starter solenoid to us old schoolers. It is a 20 amp blade fuse. And again it is kind of hidden in the plug I mentioned. You have to unplug said relay to see it. Then believe it or not I started it and it was running fine at an idle when all of a sudden it just quit running Bam ! If I have no spark I bet it is the coil, No ?

No spark might be the coil, they are cheap enough to keep a spare and use as a test unit. I had one go out on my 150, it would run fine then just give up and kill the motor until it cooled off then would start again.

Ok, Got my new coil today. Put it on and it starts right up. I scurry around getting some tools out of the way so I could pull out on the scooter. Meanwhile scooter siting there warming up. All of a sudden scooter just quits. I suspect no spark again , so I check for spark and NO spark again. What the frig is wrong with this PITA ! Check the wires and all is fine there. What next, The CDI ?

Yeah I think it is time to break out a volt ohm meter or at least a check light and look for what does and does not have power. You can start at the coil and see if power is getting to it with the switch on and work back. Check anything that should have power when the ignition is on.

Sounds like a good idea Reb. First will plug in the CDI that is comeing from Calif. in the next few days and see if consistant spark then. Then I will start testing stuff. What is it if CDI is not getting power ?

Yea, Got the new CDI and no dice. It ran for about 20 seconds and quit never to start again. Does anybody know if a DC elctrical system needs a voltage regulator for spark ? I know any time I ever had to replace a voltage regulator it was because the vehicle wouldn't charge. But as far as I know they were AC charging systems in those instances.

the cdi going bad will top it from running, dont think it will cause your light problem. Have you checked voltages?

All I know is it runs now. I am using the old CDI (all 3 of the CDIs I bought off line nodda), And a new coil. The no dash lights thing was caused by the fuse in the starter solenoid being blown. Maybe when the coil blew it caused this fuse to blow ?
