From what I've been informed by my brother in law who rides a peace sports 50....NC is getting ready to require moped plates for SCOOTERS 50 cc seems like an ok thing except think of this years upon years they had no requirement so COM'S and titles ect got lost. I cannot apply for one without exact in for on former owner...if they registered it.......that's thousands including my own impossible to register and therefore illegal as of next year....Wtf. I just had my plates taken from my truck on the claim my insurance and reg were pulled in2014 but both cards said 2015 and everything has been paid up to date...so basically I'm screwed as they are already handing out citations for no reg on SCOOTERS .....I'm just severely at a loss......I wish I knew of a way in NC to get this title without anything but the vin

As long as you have a name and address of who you bought it from you can register it with alternate paper work Talk to the guys over herehttp://www.scooterinvasion.net they might be able to help you out might be harder being the requirements went into effect back in july

Ok talked to the head office of dmv if this helps anyone the dot and dmv both just stated anything under 50 cc does not require registration as in if you have a 51 cc it does their websites state different but they even looked up the new LAWS and read them to me...this is a bit confusing but this is what I was just told by the people in charge of those laws

Yeah the 50 cc law is why the makers really build 49cc motors then just call them a 50, rounding up the number to the next convenient size. Sometime they toss in a speed requirement of nothing over 30mph which is why the scoots were restricted at the factory sometimes.

Yeah but add in a lot of hub bub about the 50s and under being regged and they even tried making them require insurance and you have confusion lol. It was even on their website at one point I just don't believe it was held up or something Idk? This woman said she searched the most recent LAWS the New LAWS ect in the books and its only over 50. I tried asking two diff branches same answer the head office and mine. Either way I hope it doesn't go into effect a lot of people would be stranded

Yes I left NC about 11 years ago over tax's and more tax's just another way to get more money for the greedy state.

When I called the actual head dmv for NC they stated the only new laws period was anything over 50 has to be regged the websites say different but she made it a point to even look up the laws but I'm still regging mine as I'm weary of how NC likes to screw stuff up a lot. insurance was never mentioned except in one article I read where it did not pass supposedly

Personally NC is about as organized as a 2yos room when he's left alone and I don't trust them. As with my lovely $200 current truck registration and costly insurance that NC stated was not there the past year (not since 2014 my rear) when I paid religiously even though the reg even stated 2015......Smh
