ok here is another one for those of us with 2 strokes with over 9000 miles on my stock reed valves i decided it was time for some new ones as the scooter was getting harder to start and even though she has been freshened up(new gaskets and rings and exhaust fix) i just wasnt getting what i thought i should out of here the last parts to replace were the reed valves so step one get your tools out i needed a 10 mm socket philps screw driver and a 5mm allen socket or wrench the new part i went with the whole assembly as it was only a few dollars more then stock reeds now its time to get your scoot naked as you will need to take your intake off i pulled the carb off and out of the way also the reeds sit under the intake so be careful when you pop them off anything you drop is going into your crank case sorry i didnt realize how blurry the pic with the intake off was one thing was that the replacement assembly does not come with a new gasket so i had to remove the gasket from the old assembly why was i down on power well lets take a look yep thats right 2 tiny little chips out of the reed so i hope they didnt do much damage inside

I have seen this many time and no one has had a engine problem yet. I own a RZ350 and it loves to do it. I am using non metal ones now with no problems.

Never had any trouble with the stockers chipping... I just ditched 'em for carbon fiber. If the chips were gonna cause a problem, you'd most likely know it by now.
