Just bolted a new "stock" exhaust onto my scoot in an effort to eliminate a constant backfire on decell, sounds good, no backfire, but now my exhaust from the head to the muffler is smoking ...any ideas folks?

Probably just oil burning off.
Did you try and putting a bigger jet in the carb when you had the other exhaust on it?

yeah, went from a 90 stock to a 120...thats when it started bogging down,so I added the uni and it all went downhill from there. Now I've gone back to stock exhaust, restricted some of the air intake, but it seems to run so lean that I worry about down jetting.Damn gremlins...

You must be running too rich now.

Awful tough to get the tuning ironed out...trying to get it set for another winter of riding...I should try to keep the mix a bit on the rich side, right? Also noticed my clutch shoes are starting to fragment along the edges...oh well,at least I'm not bored!

Yeah running a little rich is better than running a little lean.

Does it ever end? Would oil dripping from the stator be indicative of a poorly seated seal or something worse...perhaps a really bad novice scooter mechanic-one caused by the other?

Anytime a seal is touch it needs to be replaced. If you pulled the side off it needs a new seal.also seals need a bit of lube on it when a new one goes on.
