Well, winter is almost here, and already here for some of us. For others it's year round riding (and yes, I am jealous...lol). So, if you live (or used to live) where the ice and snow keeps you from riding year round, how do you winterize your bike?
I ask because I am interested in seeing the various way and opinions on this. I know that there are probably just as many opinions and arguments for/against on this subject as there are for the bike age old hard or easy break in question (I subscribe to the hard break in myself...lol).
So, share, have fun, and who knows maybe some of us will see something we never thought of trying.
Myself, I don't do much. Both of my bikes are garaged so they don't get hit with the snow or ice. I leave the batteries in the bikes, put seafoam in the tanks, top them off and start them and let them run for about 15 to 20 minutes once a week (more if we get below zero).

Yeah, you do what mot people do. If you do not start it up, putting it on a battery maintainer is a good idea, draining the oil can be a good idea too, oil becomes more acidic as it sits.

Fill it up Put seafoam in tank Ride scoot home from gas station Fog the engine Change the oils Pull battery inside and put it on the tender Top off gas from snowblower gas can that is seafoam treated Leave it sit as is unless i want to ride it I dont do the starting because most dont have enough cranking amps to start when its truly cold and then you have to refog the engine

Jmkr, what is "fogging the engine"? I've not heard that term before. Oh, and I also use the snow blower gas can to top off during the winter...lol.
Rebel, thanks. I did not know that oil would become acidic if it sat.
Hmm, looks like from both answers that maybe I should do an oil change before the really cold weather hits.

Fogging is spraying a oil in that prevents rusting while it sits. You can buy it from several makers like amsoil.

fogging oil is sprayed into the spark plug hole so it coats the cylinder with oil. i have used 2 cycle oil for this too. leave the spark plug out and turn the engine over for a few seconds to get the oil all over inside the motor. i never start the 2 wheel engines unless i'm going to ride them for an extended period. if the motor and oil doesn't get up to full operating temp you're doing more harm than good. on the HD's, i'll drain the oil tank because of the design of the oiling system, if i don't drain it, the oil gets into the motor and makes it hard to start in the spring. surprisingly the HD motor only has about a pint of oil in it while it's running, the oil tank holds about 4 quarts. i pull the batteries and charge them a couple of times per winter, which is about 5 months here. i have sea foam here but i don't use it for gas storage, although i have used it in the past. .
