I bought a schwinn newport 150 for $400 it needed a new carb so I got one and also replaced the cdi ignition coil and spark plug. It is running better but still bogs down at around 35 mph.I am going to adjust the valves tomorrow and replace the fuel line it has new gas and I replaced the vacuum lines going to the intake and petcock.the scoot has an egr system and a bunch of other vacuum lines that look like a bowl of spaghetti to me. can I remove all that stuff and will the scoot still run? Most of the videos I saw on you tube the scoots didn't have all that stuff.

You can remove it, you will have to come up with a way to block off the port it comes off the head with. You need to leave the pressure vent intact for the cankcase to vent pressure and run it off towards the back of the scooter.

I disconnected all the vaccum lines but the ones going to the petcock and the carb. It runs great now.I left the pipe and hose that came from the head and went to a vaccum valve then to the air box. When I let off the throttle I get some small backfire like noise. And I think I could get better mileage but it runs steady and no stalling .it is quick off the stop but bogs at hi speed I'm like 230 lbs so I expect some of that. Any suggestions about tuning?

I am wondering if you are running a little lean on the to end. You might go up a jet size or move the needle one position up(the clip down one notch)
Putting a performance variator on it can be a great place to start too.
