This may or may not be correct, but I have read on other sites that the CDIs for GY6 150cc and the 50cc are interchangeable. Never seen any actual proof though, or anything like a proper manufacturers statement.

I just bought the exact same CDI off eBay... The seller was very good about communication, and says the unit is good for MOST 50, 125, 150, 200 and 250 engines (also some Chinese motorcycle engines). The little graph on the sticker is for a 50 cc of course...
I just got a new Mikuni carb dialed in on my scoot (Xingyue Eagle 150) ran like a bandit... then, next day the engine will not go past 5,000 rpm. EVERYTHING fuel-related is new and correct... Valves adjusted right. So I'm 90% sure the CDI went bad and is limiting the engine rpm. The engine runs PERFECTLY up to 5,000 rpm, then just stays there...
As soon as I receive the new CDI and install it, I'll post how (or IF) it works. I see some vendors of these CDI units state they will NOT work on 157QMJ engines with the extra "P" in the model designation, saying they will actually self-destruct on those engines. Could be hogwash, but some posts on the ScootDawg site mentioned that phenomenon taking place.
More when I get the part...

PS: There is a vendor on eBay selling factory-stock, OEM CDI units for the GY6 150 for 99 cents plus $6.95 shipping! I'm considering a couple of those for backup!

I have the "p" so i will find out, my stock one is still good. What is the safe rpm limit for our engines btw, i keep reading nothing above 8k. But would kind of like to know .
Thanks Ray

Ray,
I'm not sure at all about safe max rpm, but, I think anything much over 8,000 is probably "pushing your luck" with a stock Chinese engine. On ocaission, I've had mine to just shy of 9,000 going down a STEEP highway entrance ramp... That's nearly 70 mph, and mighty sweet... Runs like it's on rails... Boy, what just 3 more hp would do for these! But THAT would make them an old Honda "Duke", the grandfather of the GY6, wouldn't it?... There's one of those dinosaurs in my neighborhood, held together with wire and duct tape, and it will STILL wheelie, top 75 mph, and cruise all day at 65... What are we missing here? Today's riders would give a LOT to have their Chinese scoots run like that!
Of course, the acceleration ramp is only a few seconds of glory, and the speed drops immediately back to 53-54 mph and 7-8,000 revs at WOT as soon as the road levels out. I know many riders claim 60+ mph on stock 150's, and maybe with a light enough rider they will, but I haven't seen any Chinese 150 do more than 55 mph around here on level roads, UNLESS it's HIGHLY modified. My Xingue will keep up with any stocker I've met on the road, and it will NOT top 55 wide open.
My heart and my gut instincts tell me these 150's are 45 mph cruisers. Period. That's what the great old Cushman Eagles, Vespas and Lambrettas were when I was a kid, and we were quite happy with the performance... They're still FANTASTIC transportation around town though! I'm used to big cycles, and still enjoy my scooter a LOT! (Even at less than 8 grand rpm...)
Enjoy the ride!

mrsg,
I received the "New Racing" CDI today, and installed it. The engine fired right up and ran great. I let it warm up, and then tried slowly opening it up, and "goosing" the throttle to WOT. It snapped to 8,500 rpm instantly, and I had to close the throttle quickly to avoid over-reving. Obviously, this unit has no rev limiter, and it seems to provide better performance than a stocker.
Riding did not provide good input, as I had been mistakenly trying to cure an electrical problem with carburetor adjustments. So, when under load, my carb is ALL out of whack. I believe when I get the carb re-adjusted, with proper needle height and jetting, the scooter will be fine.
Only time and riding will tell for sure, but this CDI seems to have good potential. I'm still going to install the Bando coil, and good spark plug to complete the system. Every little improvement is bound to be a good thing...
Best wishes with yours!
