Hello All, Ok to start this scooter is about 27 years old still looks great and runs great (most) of the time. Now top speed for this gal is supposed to be 65mph, which it used to do but now only achieves around 49mph. Now i know most members on here know lots more about scooter tech than i, so could someone kinda give me an idea of maybe common things that might wear out that would reduce my top end speed. Things I've replaced include new carb, new blue cdi,new orange coil, k&n type filter, new cvt belt, new 15 gram rollers(stock 14). Could a weak main clutch spring cause this problem? Also anything past 3/4 throttle produce no extra power plus i hear popping in the air filter when trying to go full throttle. Rich maybe. thanks brian

Sounds to me like it it running lean. Try a bigger jet in the carb. If you still have the old one you could pull the jet and see if it is clogged and then compare with the new carb.

I had the exact same problem with my Chinese Xingyue 150. My problem was mainly that the engine would NOT run well with ANY kind of extension between the air-filter and the carb-mouth, INCLUDING THE FACTORY AIR FILTER SYSTEM.
This may not be your problem at all, but... FIRST thing I'd try is to remove the air-filter and any tubing or extension between the carb and the fliter. Try a short run with the bare carb, with NOTHING attached to it.
That immediately cured my top-end running. So I have used a UNI "sock" filter directly attached to the carb with good success. It finally fell victim to constant bending against the "catback" frame brace, and I replaced it with the SHORTEST possible tubing under the catback, and a free-flowing screen filter.
That runs "fair", but not perfect. Even a short piece of tubing on the carb mouth WITH NO FILTER slightly degrades power above 3/4 throttle, and I'm working on a better filter setup that will fit on the carb with NO extension.
This sounds strange, but definitely was my main problem. Why an engine won't run right with the factory intake is a mystery, but it happens, ESPECIALLY with Chinese scoots. Could be a few Japanese scoots have the same problem.
Try the NO-FILTER, no extension test and see if your engine straightens out. It may not, but if it does, it will save you DAYS of experimenting to no avail. If it runs fine with no filter or extension, you can then figure out the closest filtration setup to no filter, then tweak the jets, mixture, etc. Just don't run it sans filter more than necessary to check the results.
Hope this may help...
