The brake lights on my 150 Jonway have been on when it is running since I bought it used. I have checked the wiring, it appears to be correct and agrees with the wiring diagram I have. I have tried various combinations of disconnecting the brake switches with no obvious conclusions. Replace both brake switches and see if that will fix it? Any suggestions on what to do next or where to look for a trouble shooting guide?

you wireing is backwards at the bulb
meaning that the power line going to the dim part of the bulb (running light) is actauly going to the bright part of the bulb (brake light)
you should have 3 wires going to the tail light 1 ground 1 that has power all the time 1 that has power when the brakes are applied
the one that has power all the time should go to the terminal that produces the least amount of light on your set up

THOMAS I think jmkjr72 nailed it on the head
but if that does not work, check for a smashed break switch
a bad batch came to the usa this summer
you will find each one of the two, on each hand brake
for replacement they come as left and right

Do you know if your switch is on the ground wire or the hot wire? If it is on the ground side any short in the groun would be like by passing the switch ant it would be on all the time.

I know this may really sound stupid, but how do you check that? The switch has two wires a black and a green/yellow. They dissappear into the wiring harness.

pull both wires off the switche, with a tester, see which END has juice between it and the bike frame when you turn ignition key to ON
that wire is conducting juice.
as to weither it is supply juice or ground juice, i can't help you
cause i have not asked enought questions my self

Not laughing, wish I could. Life is a little tense now a days. Can't go for a ride, need to pay DMV, replace windshield and left mirror/turn signal. I dropped my scooter putting it in the back of a u-haul going up the ramp. Thanks for the advice.

TRUE STORY
So big guy (big head) terra nuvo, making his girl laugh and throw that red mane in the air doing it, while my bike warms up on center stand, which takes ten minutes at 65 degrees.
so bike is parked on same exact ground it is always parked on for warm up.
As I am telling her a joke,---- ...so this guy sticks his head in a beauty salon shop and say's "hey girls, there is a man out front lying on the ground who has swallowed his nose, but its ok, no body panic, I am a retired sheet metal worker and if you get me a catchers mitt and a plumbers helper plunger, i will save his life" she is laughing at this absurd picture in her head of a guy pulling a nose out of a guys mouth with a plunger and i look
Boom, bike falls over on the ground
and get this mwthomas47, the dam engine is still running.
later .....bike never even scratched, but i find a GOFER tunnel under my center stand ground impression.
mwthomas47--welcome to a very big club, your new respect for that bike may save your life, I know i have rode since then with a better balance.
stay frosty, things will get back to where they were but better
ride wise and safe

Sorry for the late response. I created this picture to help. The first two diagrams are the way a grounded switch should work. You can get a simple test light and check for where power is getting. When the switch is open there should be no power downstream from the switch on a negative side switch, the same holds true for a switch on the positive side, if it is open though no power will be going to the bulb. Terra Nuvo, thanks for the story. My crash story; we were moving and I tried to ride my scooter up the ramp into the u-haul, problems is engine stooped half way up the ramp. Nowhere for me to go, but down sideways with scooter on top of me. Normally I have an IQ above room temperature, must have been a senior moment. Should be back on the road soon. Winters are not to bad here in Norther California
