My old Jonway 150 runs great and has low miles on it but it looks so bad body wise that I was rejected in a rat ride contest (lol). I am looking for a suitable nice looking body to transplant my engine into. Is this a good idea or am I asking for trouble. I have the skills, tools and a well equipped shop at home. I also have help if needed. I can't afford a new scooter now as my wife wants to upgrade from her 250 Rebel to a Kawi. 500 Vulcan. After all, she deserves it. Who else could put up with me for over 40 years?

Check out your local Craigslist, occasionally one pops up that doesn't run, and generally are pretty cheap. That's how I found mine! Good Luck.

You could pull all the body panels off and so a ruckus type thing to it. I think the rat rods would let you in then. If you find a donor to transplant the motor into, check out the wheels, you might want to stay with the same size just so it goes right in without needing mods.

Oh and the stator, if they are not the same you'll have a wiring problem.

Thanks Rebel, I have taken both into consideration. I have a neighbor who welds petroleum pipelines and storage tanks. He owes me a few favors. Maybe I can do something, shall I say, different? All options are open to me at this point and I ride it almost every day so I am not in a hurry.

perhaps he can weld a nob on there for you to slide the hub on?

Definitely DO consider stripping off the body panels and doing the "Ruckus" thing. With a little creative cleanup of exposed parts, these scooters can look fabulous "naked"...
The "rat-bike" look sort of fits these scoots pretty well.
Ride safe!
