Anybody been on one? Is it worth $3700 OTD? Are they that good?

Well, no I have not been on one, I'd never spend that much on a 50cc scooter. If I were to go a high dollar 50cc I'd probably go with a Honda simply because of service availability and the Honda will be a good quality anyway. The Aprilia may be better but no dealers anywhere near me.

I would love to own one, but I've never had the priviledge to check one out in person. To my understanding they are a world apart from most 50cc scoots. The new 50cc Honda scoots are carbureted 4 strokes, so the Aprilia's fuel injected 2 stroke should be much faster. They are one of the baddest 49cc scoots out there, but if you are just looking for the best new 2 wheeler you could buy for that kind of money you'd probably be better off with something like a Kawasaki Ninja 250R. www.epinions.com/review/2000_Aprilia_SR_Racing_50/content_102653922948www.mpt.org/motorweek/reviews/rt2213.shtml

Ive been on an 07 . My friend has one that is totally stock. They are very nice, very well balanced scooters. They are liquid cooled, have rear disc, fuel injection, game boy tunable ecm, the cvt works great in stock form, it keeps the motor in the power at any speed 0-50+mph. And the ride is so smooth compared to my CPI. I guess i should expect that though. My scoot will smoke it in a race, but the Aprilia isnt much slower than my modded 70cc. I can say out of all the 50cc to 150cc two and four stroke scooters i have rode with, the Aprilia is the fastest in stock trim. Are they worth that much new Im just a poor boy i couldnt tell ya. I can say that if i did have that kind of cash for a scooter i would get a Aprilia used for around 2k at the most, or a scooter like mine and build it to blow Aprilias off the road. I like #2 better myself , but i always root for the under dog. Bottom line, Aprilias are very very good high quality scoots, but you gotta pay for what you get, or build what you pay for

Thanks, Gents; I'm just wondering out loud, sort of. The best part of 4K to get a 49cc scoot out the door ain't gonna happen in this here household 'til the Powerball comes in.
It is wild, though, what those zany Italians have jammed into that platform, refined and re-refined for performance, just like the marketplace and the need to sell high volume didn't exist. I like the idea that they've pushed a production 49cc 2T to the max with little regard for saleability...unless those rich Euros are snappin' them up...
True, cheap Ninja 250s are evrywhere, and I like performance as much as the next guy, Vert, but sportsbikes styling just don't do nothin for me. Moto Strada would be a tempting day trip for me, however, so maybe I'll increase my unfulfillable ardor and go eyeball 'em, rather than hanging out at the dealer scuffing-up his Rattler 110s all day...
Thanks for the links to the reviews - superlatives abound, and it's good to hear from someone who's actually ridden one for a reality check...maybe I could sell a kidney...probably not...I'm 62, and there ain't a lotta miles left in mine...

Aw, crap...!
Just got in from the daily errand run, and it turns out the Big Four dealer - unfortunately just around the corner from me - has the SR50 R in stock...has two of 'em, in fact...white & red...maybe sell a cornea, rather than a worn-out kidney...
Like most mainstream dealers, no test rides allowed...that's the cool thing about the Genuine Rattler dealer in Arlington..he let me wheelie the Rat around the lot, even tho he knows I ain't got the dust.

Over time the extra purchase price would be recouped through 40+% better fuel economy and oil consumption somewhere around 1/3 to 1/4 that of conventional two stroke 50s. My understanding is that there is no visible oil smoke when these things run.

Like a lotta guys, thoughts of fuel economy and cost recoupment go out the window when it's time to twist the throttle...

ya, getting your money back with oil and fuel savings will take about 10 years I bet. If you want one wait until you can find a one year old one for a cheap price.
