3 weeks into my scooter and I decided to go grocery shopping. I bought what I normally would. I knew I could make it work :-)

Worked well, but I wanted to see how well my selection of bags would do. A 22" duffel, fits perfectly edge to edge on the floorboard. A 18" duffel for smaller trips, and for overflow. I just added the saddlebags last night. Worth every penny IMHO. www.cyclegear.com/eng/product/saddlebags/web1001080

I did bring the duffels into the store and I packed them myself (hoped to get all in the one duffel, but ehh). I forgot to mention I had hamburger buns in the in the trunk.
I'd say you are right about that balance thing. When I first got on my scooter I nearly fell over. Wasn't prepared for all that extra weight. It cruised nicely down the road though. Made for a much smoother ride!
Bungees? Yeah! I have an assortment in the trunk. That bungee net really came in handy. I broke the locking mechanism off the trunk (not on purpose!) and it is PERFECT for securing it.
It's still a work in progress. I'm learning the ropes, or errr... bungees... as I go.
I went from a 6,000 lb conversion van to a 280 lb scooter. There is a learning curve!

another trick is if you buy too much go back in and buy a cheap laundry basket put all the stuff in the laundry basket and ratchet strap it to the rack
on both scoots i try to keep 2 ratchet straps (that way if i ever have to do the push of shame into a friends truck or one of the work trucks i can tie the scoot down)
i have 1 laundry basket that is set up with plywood under it and in the bottem that uses u bolts to the rack if i plan ahead

Good hauling tips. ikillbugs, where did you put your feet! Heck, I've found the floorboard to be the most spacious cargo area of all! Bags of cat food, litter, cement, lumber and even a car transmission have all found their way home on "Lil' Bubba's" floor... I sometimes wonder about straining the frame, but then in other countries entire families ride on one scooter, pulling a farm-wagon with some more families inside... These can be a regular delivery truck on 2 wheels! Ride safe, even if loaded for bear... Leo in Texas

ikillbugs, where did you put your feet! This is where I like to put my feet anyway. The seating position really needs to go back about 6 inches for me to be able to stretch out. I'm thinking about highway pegs somehow mounted on the scooter. First thing's first though. I still haven't finished my PDI. Need to swap out the Chinese fuel and vacuum lines yet. Taking a few days off soon to get these things done. ...Speaking of PDI... Stay tuned for a good reason why you shouldn't stand next to the bike and start (and rev) the engine while NOT on the center stand (and NO it was NOT on purpose... it was a brain fart). Yes it is PDI related. I'll explain when I post. I am keeping a journal, will post all the gory details.

okwell
i use the plastic container for a couple of reasons. 1st & most important.... i think is safety. if i load it correctly, im pretty sure nothing is going to 'shift' and un balance me if i have to swerve or w/e. and plus u can re pack it 100 times to get the right packaging so it doesnt shift. put the heavy stuff on the bottom , ya know 2, then when u close the lid u can wrap a couple or 1 bungee over it to keep it closed and a lil more secure i cut the holes about 4 inches from the bottom and use 2-3 bungees to secure it to the scoot then i use another over the top to keep lid closed and a lil more security
the duffel bags work, but idk i like my plastic tub. and since the cab isnt to expensive i use it more
and yea i agree after my mini van was impounded it sucks im even scared of breakdowns , more, now. i installed a hitch on the van, got one of those 'dirt bike' carriers that go sideways ?? know what i mean? sanded 'em both down and painted 'em a silver metallic.
really looked good. anyone wanna buy a 'dirt bike carrier?

Just thought I would follow up. I sold my scooter and now have a Honda Shadow. 2 large saddle bags and a large tour bag in the back helps. This is my bike with $126.78 worth of groceries. Some items were unpacked and stuffed into crevices. Those bags were STUFFED!
