I knew the 2 stroke was a thing of the past for Vespa. I just don't go and read much about Vespas just because I'm not going to go and spend that much money on one. The last time I even looked at one, it still had the traditional motor on the wheel, or wheel on the motor however you want to look at it, certainly was not a set up like a GY6 scooter.
Tonight just for kicks I went to the Vespa page and there they were, I saw CVT looking things going to the rear wheel, on the left hand side, surprised the heck out of me. They do have nothing but 4 strokes listed and all of them have cvt trannys.
Time for me to wake up and look around every once in a while.

yep when vespa came back to the us market they didnt bring the 2 stroke back or the shifty back
well if you were lucky a dealer could snag some 2 strokes but they were real hard for the dealer to snag

Better not say that on a Vespa forum, they will eat your liver for such a thing.

I'm assuming the motor, which is the same as a Vespa 150, is built in China to Piaggio's specs.

how do you thing lml chetak in india and pgo got there start
they all made scoots for vespa
the itilian engines for the p series vrs the india engines for the p series were the same but the rubber bits and cranks from the itlian scoots held up better and you can say the same thing about the small frames that were made in india but the ones made in india used heavier steel for the body so they hold up better body and frame wise

figures. honestly, china can make GREAT products, i mean most of the electronics we buy, and plates, and clothes, and whatever else is already made over there anyway, scooters aren't different. only difference is, when u drop a vespa, it's a trip to the body shop, unless your handy with a hammer and dolly, and a decent painter. drop a china scoot and it's a few more zip ties to add to the faring

I worked on a 2 stroke Vespa ET2 a couple times. The owner kept letting it sit for a long time so I had to replace the battery and clean the carb and flush the gas tank a couple times. It was pretty cool. Performed just like a 1E40QMB pretty much.
Here's a vid of one:

The problem I have with Vespas is the same problem I have with BMW motorcycles. Will they do more than a cheaper model in terms of out-running, out-braking or out-lasting something of equivalent size for less MSRP? Will a $4500 Vespa LX 150 do better than a $2400 Kymco Super 8 150cc in the long run? Don't tell me about monocoque design and old world craftsmanship. I've kept my Japanese motorcycles as long as most BMW owners to know what that counts for. I'd even throw in a CF Moto E-Charm or Glory as lesser cost competitors and equal performers. Nevermind the CF Moto Jetmax 250 costs $1000 less than a Vespa 150 OTD.
I'm glad there are people who are so enthused about their Vespas, but I don't think the scooter itself warrants snobbish devotion.

People are snobbish about everything. Like those that live in San Fransisco(just an example) think they are better people than those that live in rural California, just because they feel more enlightened than we that chose not to live in the high rent part of the State. It is just part of the way people are made, raised, whatever, some people just need a reason to feel superior to others.

I'm old enough to remember British twins from the sixties. If you beat on them, they broke down pure and simple. My Dad had a TR-6, single carb, pre-unit construction 650cc that he put 61,000 miles on and sold running. He rode sensibly and did the maintenance. I've adopted that philosophy with all my rides and get good use out of them as a result. I don't think a Vespa 150 would serve me any better than a China scoot, certainly not better than a CF Moto anything. I have 6,100 on the Bashan and am getting my money's worth out of it.
Plus, do you see the little Yamaha in my avatar? I paid $325 with expenses. I know this is heresy on a scooter forum but think about the used bikes I can buy for the price of even a used Vespa. I've seen Gold Wings, KZ-1100s and all sorts of large and small displacement bikes for around $1000 that will outlast the best Vespa. Used Chinese scooters are finally coming down in price and I could replace mine for $500 or less.
As I said, I'm glad there are people who are Vespa devotees but they should remember they're paying alot for not much.

Last month, on eBay, there were 2, yup, TWO NOS, never sold Stella 150 two-strokes with clutch and gears! I'll bet those are as close to a vintage Vespa 2-stroke as you'll find!
Never know what you might find on eBay!

For me it boils down to what I like and what I would like to ride.
I have honestly never had any interest in a Vespa (or any bike styled like one) simply because I do not like the look of them. Add to that the weight of an all metal body and you lost me as a customer (yeah, I know...like Vespa actually cares...lol).
