I am in the planning phase for a project on my scoot, as soon as i get it running right which will hopefully be by the end of this week. I know its been done to death but i am going for the rat rod look, with a slight twist, instead of the standard flat black and red my plan is for flat black and orange, i am also fortunate to have a fair welder as a friend so i will be removing the rear rack which now holds my "ghetto" trunk(milk crate found on roadside) and fabbing up a spare tire rack to hold my "holy crap i need a tire but no one has the right size so i got a much smaller one to get me by" its already pretty retro looking so i wont have to do much fabrication to make it look the way i want it, the only issue i foresee is the large section of the front faring that is missing, now i have found a few places to get a replacement piece however the part and shipping equal to almost double what i paid for the whole scoot, so it looks like the only real option is to fiberglass some sort of lexan or something in to fill the hole, has anyone had to do anything like this?  Will it work? I have never tried to fill up such a large area before which is why i was thinking of a filler material........ any ideas or suggestions? |

i didnt realy use any filler material
i filled it from the rear first and then from the front i used 2 layers of fabric on both sides

I've done a little fiberglass patching on a boat and a few other things. If the hole you have is not horribly large, you can cut a piece out of a plastic milk bottle and tape that to the underside to have a surface to start laying your glass on top of. When the fiberglass resin hardens that plastic will peal right off. Then lay a couple layers on the back side over lapping so that the glass has a good foundation stuck to the back side of the plastic. finish it off to your satisfaction and you should be good to go.
Another idea, since you are going rat rod you could find a plastic bucket or waste paper basket and cut out a piece to lay right over the hole and screw it down then paint over it. You might even be able touse a heat gun and soften it so it can be better molded to the panel.

yeah thats a big chunk
get a bit of round rod to help reshape it
then get some fabric scretch it over and put resin on it and build up a couple of layers that way

I am pretty handy with body work and i think i have what i think might work, the middle piece of semi-stiff plastic from a big screen tv and a heat gun to mold it to match the other side

If you are really good, you could cover that entire side and it would not be noticeable.

i will keep you updated on the progress, any feedback on the rat project? ideas i may not have thought of? i plan on buying at least one more rim and tire so i can have a real spare but i am looking for a little input from some of you who have done this kind of stuff before

I don't think I've seen a spare tire mod on one of these. You are running in new territory as far as I know.
