Hi!
Over here on the other side of the pond we measure the octane of gas somewhat differently than the US, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to convert between the two? I get pretty confused by all you guys refering to 93octane as premium, we can't get anything lower than 95 here...

Ya, there are a couple different rating systems for octane, I don't know why we can't all use the same system. you use one called RON or research octane number. another rating is called MON, or motor octane number RON 95 = MON 83 here is a calculator; www.csgnetwork.com/octaneratecalc.htmlOur federal Government requires an average of those two ratings to be posted on our pumps. At least that is what I found on google. 95 + 83 divided by 2 = 89 (our magical number)

Aha! Thanks Rebel. It seems Wikipedia has more information on this than anyone ever will need (as often before) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_ratingIf I read this correctly it means that the stuff I run my scooter on would be rated as 95 octane in the US. Hrm... Got to look into advancing the ignition timing...

Oh ya, at 95 octane you could bump the timing up. You know you can just make some slots in the pick up sensor for the timing and slide it over a hair to change the timing right. take the sensor off, and use a file on the mounting holes to make them wider.

I am supposed to get a new CDI shortly with a different timing curve, I'll try that first and post the results.
