As you all know, I'm a mod on the SD. We also all know that recently a little war went on over there and it looked like things were calming down, Kliff posted a thread that looked like it was going to move mountains and the end of the world was not coming after all. Currently, I had several PM's from a member over there that was claiming to be getting threats from two of our members here on ScooterRebels (also SD members). And to top that off another party came into Kliffs thread and stirred the pot up some more.
Well the content of those "threatening" PM's were sent to me as proof of harassment. I really did not see anything that looked like a threat. I did delete the Kliff's thread, just to make the comments go away, first I deleted the few posts that were negative, then decided that just getting rid of the thread would work best.
SD has over 7,000 members and with that many people, you are just going to have some fighting from time to time, people will get banned just to keep the peace. I'm hoping that we can grow for a long time here before problems like that come up, and when they do people will be told to go to another place.
So far I have seen nothing but great posts, information and warmth. Lets try to keep it that way.
Thanks for letting me vent a little.

i havent been over to sd at least i dont think so but i know what you mean about the drama on some sites
and some of the worst drama i have seen has been from owners of boards that thin its a bit of a competition when in reality we should all just be working together to spread the scooter culture
but form what ive seen so far seem like you guys have a nice group here

I hope I never become the source of bickering here. I agree with you that we should just be here to promote scootering and to help each other out as much as possible. Thanks for the comment about the group and we are glad you decided to be part of us.

Rebel, there's no way to make everyone behave in a free forum like this or SD...some folks get their feelings hurt easy, some have no tact, etc., but I think in general it's because everybody wants to belong to something, to be included...SD has had a weird vibe for about a year now, and maybe it's just an evolutionary thing. But I hope we can get this thing off the ground, and attract some newbies, and get some good chat, scooter and otherwise, going, and keep it flame-free. It's a big task, but somebody's got to do it!

Stevep,
Thanks, short of dragging people here I've done about what I can do to get the word out, put info in my SD signature line, invited a few of the people over there to here, informed and invited all the Mods there about what I was doing and even invited the Owner there to come here, all had good wishes for me. I bought word ads with Google, put all the tags I could think of in the page code, listed with search engines. Now I have a buddy, who is a member here and a computer guru/internet expert working on getting our google listing moved up as far as he can.
We are less than a month old and have 65 members, I can not really complain about that. Three years ago when SD first started I was one of the first to join it and I think it took several months to get it to that many members. I've been on other forums that have been around longer and have fewer members, so something must be going right with us.

Well, I'm a bit of a network "engineer" myself, so I'll do what I can for ya about getting some traffic here. The format should be very familiar to SD regulars or anyone who has frequented other forums. It'll get going, so hang in there...

It’s refreshing to ask a question here and not get a bunch of stupid posts from kids who think their being funny. I’m used to seeing such posts on gamer and computer boards. The other scooter board I was on the owner would answer questions with curt yes or no answers with little information. And any other replies were useless. I’m watching for a Chinese scooter club to start in Columbus Ohio, it would be nice to ride with others!

actually what gets me even more is knob questions from "experienced" tuners and then when you give them an answer they dont like they try and twist things around
but i do know about the teen or young gun who has a bit of knowldge but thinks he knows to world
but why watch or wait for a club start a ridding group on your own
here in green bay we had no reqular rides so i have been working with a local scooter shop to put a ride out once a month on saturdays so far mother nature has played with us our april ride had a total of 5 people(scooter shop owners had to wait for a customer to pick up his scoot) but it was the first nice day of the year may scoot ride had 6 people (again owners couldnt make it due to waiting for customers to come pick stuff up) but it was windy as heck
but find a place to meet for a ride and take an add out on craigs list and post some flyers and see what happens

Sorry you have to deal with all the BS part of it Rebel. Thank you for doing so and still being a cool positive Admin.

The BS part of it has not yet come to this forum, it is the other one I'm a mod on that it gets to be frustrating. I see no reason to have a long dragged out fight over some advice given by somebody. The way I see it is that if a piece of uniformed advise is given, well it cost what it was worth, nothing. People learn by doing things if you follow the lead of somebody that does not know what they are doing, you will learn they are not what they claim soon enough, your scooter will not run well, break down often and you will have a high bill at the parts store. If somebody gives you good advice you will find that you have fewer problems and enjoy life more. Some advice falls into a gray area and neither opinion is to critical, but the turf is defended to the death, this is just plane nonsense. These forums are for fun and to share the common interest of the group, not for fighting.

I'm much happier when I login here and realise there are no PMs in my inbox saying so and so said/did this and what are you going to do about it. Since helping set up the forum, I haven't really had anything to do as a moderator. Kinda nice. The lack of drama helps to provide Rebel with time to come up with new ideas and work on his CafePress store, member map, or whatever else.

Man i hadnt even thought of that. People coming to you to "tell", i just PM for advice, or for something i dont feel is worth a post, or even just to say thanks. Like im going to do now ;D. Thanks guys!
