i had to get some new boots for riding. the old pair i bought in 1982 and stopped wearing them in 2005 because my feet grew. they are redwing 2268 and are steel toe engineer boots. the new pair are 968 redwings but aren't steel toe. if i get 24 years out of these and i'm still riding i'll be happy. $250, but i think i can say they'll last a life time. i contacted redwing shoes a few days ago about getting a new pair of the (model 2268) old boots in the picture. those boots are only made for europe and japan markets even tho they are made in redwing, minnesota. i was put in touch with the flagship store in redwing and talked to chrystal there. in my conversation with her she said that she has only one other request for that boot that she can remember. these are the classic steel toe biker engineer boots with the logger heal. chrystal placed a special order for a pair of boots on monday afternoon, had them built and in the mail by thursday afternoon. i've been trying to get a new pair of these for several years and i finally got a pair. this is a case of the classic old fashioned customer service, do whatever it takes to keep a customer happy. my redwing collection includes, model 2268 classic steel toe engineer boots from the early 80's a pair of model 402's a pair of model 404's a pair of steel toe lineman boots model 2218 a pair of engineer boots model 968 a pair of model 4020 a pair of 1262 insulated work boots and finally another new pair of 2268's with that many i don't know how i'll ever wear any out. the old pair of 2268's that i wanted to replace with new boots had not been worn on my feet for about 7-8 years. i had them in the basement all that time, i couldn't bring myself to throw them out because of the miles and the fun times i had while wearing them. i stopped wearing them because i couldn't get them on my feet. after i placed the order for new boots i dug the old pair out of the basement, wiped off the dust and cobwebs and started to oil them with pecard boot oil. i gave them a couple of coats of oil and the boots soaked it up like a sponge. after i let them sit for about an hour i tried to put them on. wouldn't you know it, they were kind of tight but i got them on and wore them for a few hours. god, they felt good. i think i have an excessive compulsive redwing disorder. hello, i'm bagga and i'm a redwingaholic.

redwing has a good reputation.
I understand steel toed boots are not really the best to ride with. A fellow on another forum said he got in an accident with some on and they cut his toes off.
