In a post Brent did way back in the past, he took an old reed and gutted it to make a spacer to put under a new one. I'm sure it is a good idea, but I'd like to understand what it does. So can one of you explain it to me?

its just like a carb spacer on a cage it gives you more volume and a bitof volicty increase
thye more air and fuel you can get in by the crank the more it can compress it and more power

On the minarelli engines that I'm used to, it will actually create a more direct path from the reeds to the transfers as well.
