ouachita - thanks. If anybody knows about the rollers, it's probably Harry.

On the rollers, someone went 'lighter' at 12.5 grams and likes it.
Max toque is at 6900 RPM...on my bike that ends up besing about 70 MPH. Max HP is at 8,500 RPM and I've need been over 8,000 RPM, so the stock weights are a little heavy for me. I'd personaly prefer max toque to occur around 65 MPH. I wish I knew what the stock weights weighed but I don't. I'll prolly weigh them at my 7,200 mile inspection.
As far as aftermarket clutches...I don't see a lot of purpose to them unless you are racing.

Thanks Harry!
It's not any problem now with the weights or clutch and if it ain't broke then I don't plan to fix it. However, when it comes to the point that I do need to replace the rollers I would like to know what they weigh and at that point if I want to change anything I can have the right parts on hand.
What I would like to play with is see if I can improve the take off AND mpg. Dealing with weights alone that might be mutually exclusive goals. I was wondering if tampering with the clutch and weights might get results.
I'm a complete noob at this so any enlightenment is most welcome.

Made a run from the Camden, AR area to Hot Springs, AR via Hwy 7 and back this morning. Lovely weather and very light traffic for a nice ride. Distance is approximately 170 miles round trip. Got 80.84 mpg on 89 octane gas keeping the tach around 5500 rpm (about 55mph actual).
I do need to do something to make the seat more comfy! LOL

nice trip ouachita!!! and yeah...Mr Seat is begging for a trip to the custom seat shop...
Lost a bolt holding on the exhaust to the swing arm. Other two were loose. Worked out to be an M8 X 1 standard thread bolt with a lock washer and flat washer. Bolt cost me 70 cents, lock washer 35 cents and flat washer 17 cents at Ace. Blue loctited all 3 bolts back in and tightened them down good.

I live at sea level and run high grade fuel. lots of fun on a scooter like this on the highway.People hate to get passed by my little scoot when they are doing 80 on the highway. My RPM's have actually just passd 10,000 going down the dames point bridge. Mayhaps the scooter maven was blowing smoke on the 8 minute video relating to the xpeed/ms3, but he mentioned the clutch would help with initial take off for a larger person while helping maintain top end with the "pillow springs" I believe... but would have to verify that the "uniclutch" mentioned in that old video is the "hit clutch" they market now. I am now to the point that I have to replace the battery and at least "check" my valves. I would like to replace my belt, add the hit clutch (I am heavy) and put in lighter DR. pulley weights or the "turbo kit" variator and/or exhaust from Spain. Still seriously thinking about ordering a "dynotune" nitrous kit with lean kill switch. I just think it would be funny smoke a larger displacement cruser that should own the scooter. I seem to remember the magic number for the clutch being "201." If that is the right clutch then CBXman has it for $275. Again, have to research it. That will give me something to look into this weekend.

had light winds yesterday evening...so decided to punish the bike for putting me thru a traumatic experience.
Got up on I-90...found a nice straightaway with light traffic and light X-winds...first time I saw the speedo hit 160 km/h indicated or the tach exceed 9K RPM. Could only manage 145km/h inidicated in the opposite direction.

Saturday morning ride. Summer's finally here with a week to go before back to school. It's a great morning for a ride. My wife says nothing urgent need done so I decide to take a ride. She asks where and I say maybe "The Que". Quemahoming Dam used to be the main water supply for Bethlehem Steel's Johnstown works. After Beth left town, the Commissioners from Cambria and Somerset Counties formed an authority, bought it for water supply and opened part up for public recreation. Anyhow, it is beautiful and 15 minutes from the house. I start out at 8:30, temp's just right with a little valley fog. I ride the local roads down (from where I live, almost everything is down) to the Stony Creek valley. I cross the Stony Creek and pick up PA 403 South. I go thru the little towns of Benscreek, Tire Hill and Davidsville. 403's not a bad road, some curves and hills, 35-55 mph limits. At the little town of Holsopple, I stop for gas. The people on the other side of the pump come over and ask about the Xpeed. the young guy says "My mom rides a 150 and she's looking for a bigger scooter. We talk a bit and leave. A few hundred yards down the road, I see a gentleman I met before who rides an older Honda 80 scooter. I wave, he slows, pulls into a driveway. I pull a U turn and go back to talk with him. We introduce ourselves and talk a bit. He says that his neighbor rides a 150 and that his 80 plus year old brother bought a 150. I gave him a couple of my "Johnny Scooterseed" handouts about starting a club. I turned onto PA 601and proceed up the valley. I turned on to the dam road, nice ride but twisty and narrow. Had to dodge a squirrel. I get up to the recreation area and pull in. Take a couple pix, a guy bike riding stops and asks about the scoot. We talk a little and I share some fishing hot spots. Call the wife and tell her I'm headed home. Back down the road, waving at all the women on their bicycles that are training for some event. Took 601 to the little town of Jerome - fun road. Lot's of good curves and hills. I decide to go for it and get on US 219 the "Flight 93 Memorial Highway". I crank it up to almost 70 for a couple miles but there are some nasty crosswinds so I get off at the Davidsville exit and then backtrack my route home. I decide to take the main road up to PA 56 so I can run at 55. On the way I pass the Harley dealership. A bunch of heavy metal risers start waving at me. I wave back. I get home after a 36 mile trip. It may have been that it was a great day but almost every biker I saw including Goldwings and big Harleys exchanged waves with me.

Ended up changing my plug and that has ended my starting woes. Fires up every crank now. Thought it was an idle speed or battery issue. After changing the plug I once again had to adjust the idle speed and it is now happy to start and run without stalling on warmup. My old plug (factory NGK-CR8E) was a littly sooty/black. I went with the NGK-CR7E plug and actually lost some top end. Wondering if I might have a little preignition at higher rpms. Think I might go back to a cooler plug. After making the change I found some info on the net that claims for higher compression/higher rpm engines one should run a cooler plug. I think I might just try the CR9EIX if I can find one locally and see if my top end comes back. From what I have read about plug heat ranges it seems to be a trade off between heat dissipation and plug fouling. Since I am always full throttle I am going to try the cooler plug. I am going to switch to the Iridium as the copper fouled within a year. Figure the Iridium should stay cleaner longer. I was told by a tech that the factory plugs should be changed about every 4,000 Km on a scoot.

Based on Harry saying the 10 amp 12BS powersports battery will fit in the box I purchased one and am gonna install that tommorrow morning after work...looks like it could rain any minute this morning and I hate working on vehicles in the rain. It does look to be really close in size to the factory battery. I have the acid in the battery and it has been charging overnight. Might have to find one of them LED tail lights too. Speaking of LED, has anyone found a source to get the factory LED turn signals stateside. I would like to run those and the lights on the mirrors/rear stalks. The more light the better. Mine only has the incandescent bulbs in the turn signals and stalks...it is plainly visible by the reflectors and wiring that the turn signals on the body should be LED...must be some distance ruling in American law that says those would have been too close to be running lights/turn signals.

Re: 23x18 roller weight? -No mention of the gram weight of the factory roller weights. Let alone the weight for the nylon sliders. All he really says is if you upgrade the exhaust go with lighter weights for more accelleration...if you keep factory exhaust go with heavier weights for higher top end. I have read that sliders of the same weight as the rollers actually work faster due to the compound used and the fact that the squared edge gets higher in the variator allowing for a smidge more accelleration and speed. It really would help to know how much these things weigh, you would think they would have put that information in the video. Re: "202" Uniclutch? -Only one I can seem to find is part # 151202 that is used on the Aprilia Scarabeo 100cc. Would that be the right one for our scoots? Is it now marketed as the "hit clutch"? If so it may mean a different part number. He does mention that the clutch allows for approximately 20% more accelleration and that it also gives a higher top end. Lowest price I have found on what *might* be the right clutch is $218 before shipping and the company has none in stock... www.whidbeyparts.com/SPD/uni-clutch-151202--80000AFE-1178919884.jsp Anybody know?

About the Seat...I am a large person and am actually thinking of getting rid of the low portion in the front and the hump in the middle to give it more of a "flat bench" appearance. I want to make the forward part of the seat as high as the rear part of the seat. Doing that should also allow me to scoot back some and also have more leg room. Might be a little while before that project though.
