So is this a motorcycle or scooter? Which part is Ruckus? The genuine Honda Ruckus front body work/battery box and internal battery holder, etc, has yet to be installled....all Honda. Being as severral transplants have been done, one on a Honda clone, seems to have full TR sanctioning, I asked for TR sanctioning, after explaining my build, and was also awarded TR transplant status. Seems all these scoots, wherever I find them, with 12" or less wheels, whether they have "step-through" capabilities or not, are still scooters. Even Ruckus' exhibitting the diagonal strengthenning bar, alleviating convenient "step-through," are still considerred scooters. So, with the intent, and componetry.....I'm calling it a scooter, pretty sure Doug will call it a scooter, TR calls it a scooter....what else matters? ;D

I once toured a plant that made Porsche replicas, Thunder Mountain, down in the San Diego area. Their philosophy was if it had one screw that came from a Porsche, it was a Porsche. You seem to have passed that threshold. As far as the State is concerned VIN number on its frame, is what it is.
Is it a scooter, well my opinion about what is a scooter is known I think. What class it will run in would be up to the race organization.
I do know this, it is a mean machine in the making.

Let me get this straight.
If the wheel size is less than 16" you can build a one off fame, install a motorcycle motor, and still call it a scooter as long as you use something from a scooter to build it?
Like Rebel says "You have one badass machine on your hands".

in MY book, if the wheel size is 13"s or less, it's a scooter......
Now as far as powerplants are concerned.... I've seen over the road tractors, with Allison Aircraft V-12's..... stll a road tractor, Motorcycle with a heli turbine shaft engine, still a motorcycle, boats woth all manor of car, motorcycle, aircraft, and RR locomotive diesels....still boats. Cars with aircraft, M/C, turbin-shaft, prop propelled on land, water, and AIR....but still licensed and registerred as cars...in all this myriad of vehicles, some were production units, pre-production prototypes, or one-offf customs.
I don't understand your willingness to question nomenclature, and stir up discontent, when 99% of any veiwing crowd will either accept the builders definition, or keep their opinion to themself, and move along.
If I so choose to build a scooter and use NOTHING of a pre-existing scooter Jeremy.... it is still a scooter... or a car or boat, car, airplane//// it will be, and perform as those before it, or better, and still be recognizeable as what I call it. Dude, what is your problem? What I can't do is build a Ruckus, or a Ruckus Clone....BUT, a Ruckus INSPIRED scoot.....that is not a problem for me. I feel I have the skills and equipment to use some bolt ons and just as many or more on-offf fabs in my builds..... whereas someone, like yourself, is content to rely on 99% boltons, and just retr-fit an existing vehicle. Nothing wrong with that THOUSANDS are in that same boat. Besides..... nah, I'll drop it here.... this is beginning to bore me.
OMG! what are we gonna tell all those hot-rodders that have been fiberglass bodied cars over the past half century.....woe is me....my bubble is busted....

I actually started to post a comment about hot rods, but didn't, I'll toss it in now.
Back when I was a kid a lot of guys would go to to a muffler shop or an iron supply and buy a stretch of "roll bar pipe" actually a bunch of it, and build frames to install chevy motors and trannies then a rear end from most any car they could find and top it off with a fiberglass body and suddenly had a "T Bucket" or a "Deuce Coupe".
Nobody cared if it had a single Ford part in it.
So lets not really care what Kliff calls it, it is what it is. And it is something we all want to see finished because it is an awesome project. Also there is no need for a ugly situation to get going here.

that's what I want next. have said it before I do not like the styling of most of the 250's out there. a 2stroke snowmobile motor would make a real screamer in a retro frame with a "flat" floorboard. I almost took a give away snowmobile 20 years ago with that in mind. There used to be a group that put rotax's and polaris motors in little race cars. on a short 1/4, high bank blacktop track, they were faster than the late models. (by about 2 seconds) As I remember the variator mounted on crankshaft but the clutch pack was on a seperate jack shaft...not on or in the motor case as a gy6 is. that gets kind of a long strung out affair for a scooter. But if the motor was on the swinging arm as a gy6 and the clutch pack was on top of the wheel with a chain going down to the sprocket it might be do able.

Fitting up the rear wheel assy, shock, and yeah...that Triumph rear cowl.....damn, I'm starting to like that cowl... Even though the rear caliper mount was modded and shortenned by about an inch, wheel to caliper clearance was still a tad close! Here's an idea of the OEM caliper mount, and a shortenned version. Throw in a little caliper shaving, and all was good.....
