im in the process of workin on one soon to be heavily modded mc71 .my scoot is a ten inch shortcase 150 and after 5300 miles i killed the intake valvespring and its leaking oil from everygasket on the motor so it needs a total rebuild incl;uding spliting the case so i figured i might as well have it bored out while its apart so i started looking for another temporary engine to throw in so i could ride while building the hoss motor , i lucked out and found a a motor out of a vento that was totalled out at 700 miles complete with clutch and variator for 100 bucks got it home and everything transfered to it then relized it was a long case and my ten inch wheel wont fit drum is smaller so now im putting a 13'' rear wheel out back a 10'' up front the rear is lower due to shorter shocks so im gonna lower the front to match well the body is beat up so im gonna go satinblack on the body with red pinstripes ...red and chrome on the wheels , ive got a pair of 50's vwbug headlight assymblies with the slanted glass cover , and myheadlight housing is cracked and broken so im gonna replace it with one of the vw one s and french it into the snout gonna switch to the vespa style handlebars and do away with the gaugepod and just slap either a trailtech or a gps there .......... finnaly got most of the pieces started assymbling it tonight but now ive got too relocate the upper shock mounts so the rear tire doesent rub the bottom of the gas tank so out comes the welder.i decided to make new mounts and leave the originals in place in case i ever want to switch back to the short ill be able too got everything fabbed up aint pretty by any stretch but gets the job done and is strong i know my life sepends on it so im not taking chances . one note symetricaly frame plus asymetrical engine means left shock mount should be more inboard than right side so i had to use a long lower bolt with spacers ... i knew those stripped out chinese sockets i had laying around would be usefull for something !

the shocks are a lil more vertical than i would have liked but actually stiffens things up a lil without binding and they're straighter than they look its an optical illusion and here's me with the fabwork done and ready to tear it down hit it with some spray paint and put it back together .... and my shedd is what happens when ya have a two bay shop worth of crap in a lil shed keep in mind this was a shortcase 150 with a ten inch wheel now sporting a longcase and 13'' wheel !

ok well the tank was in the way to do the mounts like i wanted to but ill be rectifing that soon im gonna put a 5 littre keg and mount in place of the luggage rack for a fuel tank . ive also got some longer , heavier shocks , coming monday so a redesighn is comin monday or wednesday i may get some cosmetics done then too so those poor chinese sockets are gonna go back in the junk bin lol that rear setup was more of a proof of concept thing than actual finnished project and i bought a new 2/3 horse drill press to help me along so good things are gonna be in the pipline who knows were its gonna go but itll be fun

Good to see a mod like this become successful and that you like the way it improves the scooter. Question, the left rear shock/spring, could you have mounted the top on the inside of the bracket and the bottom line up a bit better letting you not use that chinese socket as a spacer?

nope the fuel tank is in the way but ive got new longer, stiffer adjustable shocks too put on it over the next 2 days since im off work and got a fix for the fueltank bein in the way , a 5 litre mini keg mounted to where the luggagerack is , heres where the rat rod of the project begins , after the tank is gone i can make the mounts the way i wanted to in the first place . when fabbing on these things its easy to forget..... symetrical frame........ asymetrical engine/trans lol ill have more pics to come , and ill be able to get rid of the chinese sockets lol it was only a temporary mount so i could test it out and see what i needed to do as far as rollers , handling etc

oh yea btw today on the way to work , at wot up and downhill at 50-60mph most of the way with my 250lb self on the back with a headwind most of the way .... i was getting 70.2 mpg ..... and on the same big downhill that killed the valvespring on old motor i again hit 75 indicated(apprx 62-67 real mph) cept this time the motor was barely reving ....aprox 2/3 of the rpms of the old motor at same speed...... ive got a good ear for revs ..... im a automechanic by day so i developed a ear for it , i still need to get a tach and a gps but still ....this beast has some potential ......a 59mm BBkit and a9 cam are definatly in the pipeline ....... im not looking to break a land speed record but i do want to run 60mph at a cruise and i think that will get me where i need to be ......

well went and fixed the left side turns out with a longer shock i can reuse original mount now on the right side theres a differant problem couldnt use original mount cuz it was to far inboard and the shock would scrub the tire so i said no problem ill cut it off and move it out board measured rechecked welded and guess what ........... strait true doesent hit the tire awesome cept the shock wont fit now cuz the spring hits the gawdamn frame ......... so....... instead of doing my first impulse of taking the sawzall and cutting the entire bike into lil peices and leaving it by the curb ............ i took a walk ........... then picked up my tools put the bike back in the shedd and ill figure something out tommorrow well ive got an idea .......... since the area of the frame that is in the way is aft of the shock mount i guess i could cut out the offending area of the frame and weld in a piece of flat steel kind of like a sideways c-notch ........ hopefully itll still be rigid enough not to flex what do yall think

I have no idea if it will be rigid enough if you start cutting off metal. Sounds like you might have got yourself in a pickle here. I'd look things over real close to be sure you don't do something that is not repairable and does not cause another line up problem. You might just be heading towards a Maxx type project.

lol well i found a set of beefy longgggggg adjustable preload shocks off a 125cc large frame dirtbike and they were a perfect fit i ended up bolting the left side up with no problems but the right side i had to move the upper shock mount outboard about 2 inches and cut a relive into the frame , behind the last crossmember to clear the coils but only went about 30% into the tube so it will be easy to go back in and box it in for strength here lemme show you the differance between original shocks in yellow and new in black
