Rebel your opening post reminded me of my pre military days!! When wasn't working in the fields you'd find me hunting or fishing!!! Raised as a meat on the table hunter, times barley could afford beans and taters!!Possum too greasy, young jack rabbits good any way you want, old ones stews! Young coon, fried or roasted with sweet taters(if we were lucky).Armadillo, roasted with taters & onions, tasted like pork, only not greasy!! Loved frog legs soaked in salt h2o for 2-5 days & fried!Dad hated them.Catfish (blue, mud, yollow) fried, till a bone caught in my throat!!Mom loved perch. LOve that quail!!(not the San Quintin kind, hehe!!, scaled & bobs)Wasn't allowed to shoot doves, God's special bird!!!Tried duck once, a teal, not good,we didn't know how to fix it!! Trapping skunks ended my trapping carrear, had to bathe out side in #3 tub in 25* weaather! All the kills were with a .22 single shot.Generally 1 shot one kill, .22 shorts cost money, 45 cents! Those were the days just ask and you could hunt & fish on almost anyones land!! Same land today, $100-1000 a gun to hunt!! That's a lot of burger meat!!! Do I approve of what I did ? NO!!! The only thing I am proud of , help put meat on a meatless table of family & a few fond memories of watching & learning wildlife habbits!!! Rambled too much, sorry guys.rh You left out young ground hog an crawdad tails I recall when you could get a whole 50 cents for a skunk hide. An a buck for musk rat .

well i love hunting and now that the farm has been sold if i want to hunt small game i have to buy a license and ill have to find a new place to hunt deer for some dumb reason my brother decided to get married on opening day of gun deer so needless to say there were a lot of unhappy people on both sides so here i am sitting out in the woods at the farm in a shotgun only zone and this big buck is sticking his head out of the thickets but not far enough to get the shoot off so i am just waiting for the moment breathing slowly ensuring the saftey is off next thing you know my sister and now ex sister inlaw come screaming in the drive way horn blowing hooting and hollering and off runs the buck and i didnt see another buck all season long but i did get to use my doe tag

Leaving October 9th for controlled deer and elk hunting. Do a lot of hunting, but most years minimal shooting. Just so great to get outside for a week and do guy things that you aren't supposed to do at home (belch, pass gas, scratch and tell BS stories) any time you want.

Four weeks from today idnative and I will be setting up our hunt camp. Muley season opens on October 10th and the cow elk season we all drew out on opens the 13th. He hasn't been able to go for the last few years because of our mother's health, but Dad is planning on going up with us this year. Believe it or not, but he's 91 years old and can still tromp the mountains. Had a scare about a month ago when he had a clot in his leg, but he's all fixed up and raring to go. I use the same rifle that I started hunting with when I was 12. It's a lever action .300 Savage that my grandfather won on one of those old time punch boards and gave it to dad when he was a teen.

montana - great for your dad. Somewhere around here I have a clipping about my great-grandfather. He got his first buck when he was 93. Had to have help dragging it out tho.
Sherry - no offense ma'am but your Florida deer are smaller than our yankee deer. Your bass are a lot bigger tho. Thanks for the invite!

I wouldn't know any thing about the Floirdia deer. I have never huntetd or have eaten any of the deer here, so you could be right. But Georgia is another story. That's good hunting. I have lived in Fl. for only 4 yrs and tho the beaches are cool my roots are in Ga. I even have a Ga peach tattoo to always remind me where home is.. but that is another thread. ;D I have enoyed the fishig here , tho. I have has a blast fishing here but I would be just as content limb lineing on the Ocmugee rive or fishing with a cane pole at a pond in Ga.
