I always wear my armored jacket and leather gloves even in the hot days of summer. With the 100 deg days we've been having here I sweat like a pig on the way home, but I'd prefer to keep the hide on my torso and arms. I also always wear my helmet (3/4) of which I need to change out to a full helmet. Don't have armored pants but always wear my levis and over the ankle shoes.

I drive motorcycles as well as scooters so I have a good bit of gear. Full set of armored leather and textile. Boots, gloves, helmets, kevlar jeans, yada yada yada. When I commute I wear a full face helmet, and either the textile or the leather, sometimes Kevlar jeans on my lower half, at least good leather shoes, and gloves. Gloves are important to me. When I have smacked the pavement, the first thing I've done is try and put my hands down. I know your suppose to tuck and roll, but under impending doom you try not to. If you can, you have more will power than me.
Do I look unusual in leathers on a scooter? Yup. Will they save you painful months of skin grafts and other nasty operations? Yup. You can get a nice set for 4-5 hundred. High I know but have you priced a skin graft lately? I'd kill for a custom set of Vansons. Maybe if I rob the Mrs. cookie jar.
When I just pop over to the store I'm not as safe. I'll wear the same helmet, gloves and shoes, but in jeans and <looks ashamed> a t shirt. My favorite of all my gear is my Sidi boots. Let me tell you folks those boots are like bedroom slippers. Sooooo comfy. Worth every single dime you pay for them. And tough too. My last pair saved a couple of my toes. A shameful plug for Sidi but it's all true.
