Question thou.... Does a manual petcock replace the need for a fuel control valve? Cuz I've had to replace my fuel control valve twice now and I'm looking for a better device. I've read where people replace it but I'm not sure what to replace it with or how. Where can I get the uni sock filter? I see where I can purchase the GY6 Air Performance Upgrade - Level 1, but I don't think I need all that lol. Course maybe I do....it comes with 2 main jets www.buggypartsnw.com/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/GY6_Air_Performa_49ab243d891fc.gifWhere's the "Free CDI" thread? lol that way I can get the same CDI device u have. Thanks a lot! any advice and links are much appreciated. --Bill You can do a gravity feed system and toss the vacuum control valve. It would be best if you installed a fuel cut off valve so that when it is not running you don't run the risk of fuel leaking out all over the place. And yes, you can replace the fuel control valve with a manual one. Uni sock filters are available at any motorcycle shop so you can buy those locally or you can order them from just about any online dealer, like Enviromoto.

I can take the vacum control valve out all together and plug up the hole somehow so that only the fuel line comes out, then add a manual petcock? or do I need to replace the gravity feed unit with a manual unit AND install a manual petcock? Sorry I'm so naive and am easly confused lol This is what I'm trying to replace: enviromoto.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=3268767I feel it starves the scooter of fuel at times and leaves me stranded on the road Thank u for the Enviromoto name. I googled it and I see where I can purchase the uni filter. I didn't see any manual fuel control valves thou. --Bill

On a more then fair portion of scooters, The petcock is inline rather then bolted to the tank. So it's a matter of pulling off the old vacuum petcock, installing a manual petcock...available anywhere lawn mowers are sold..and plugging...removing the vacuum line. On your setup you will have an extra step..as you either have to find a manual shutoff valve that matches the threads on your tank or find a hose barb that matches the threads and an inline shutoff valve.

I'd pull the valve off and go to a hardware store to match it up with a barb that will fit your fuel line, shouldn't be too much trouble. Then you just need a petcock that has an on and off position to put inline, you might find that at the hardware store too. Find somebody there that seems to have a few brain cells firing and talk to them about it. Alternately you can always take the scooter too a lawn mower repair shop and see if they will help you with it.

I got it now!! thanks!!!!! So this is considered a vacuum petcock (yes, even thou it says that on the description, I still didn't put it together In my little brain I only registered it as a vacum control valve) enviromoto.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=3268767I'm gonna yank that pos outta the picture, plug in a barb, run some line from it to the manual on/off petcock and scooter on! Awesome! so why don't they just do it this way instead of having that pos installed anyway lol Thanks a lot guys! I'll be back once I read up some more and get my ducks in a line. I'm investigating CVT and air intake mods also. Course I don't know what CVT stands for yet LOL But HEY....I'm ready to "take the plunge" & REBEL against mediocre performance!!! lol

heeeeelp... =) I'm trying my hardest to build my fuel line still.....now that I know what a barb is lol Ok so if I'm correct, the male nipple that sticks out of the gas tank, at the bottom, where the female end of the vaccume petcock connects) is size 5/8 I've looked EVERYWHERE for a female connector at that size and also have it setup so it can get small enough (maybe 1/4?) for the gas line to fit properly and I can't find anything. Can u all tell me what parts you're using, links or something?
Thanks --Bill

thanks RD, but I have that piece covered. From your picture, follow the fuel line to the left. That should take you to a connector that connects the fuel line to the tank correct? I need that connector. How are u guys making it work?

You should be able to find a fitting that will adapt down to the size of the hose nipple you need from the size of the threaded outlet on the tank, if you can't find a single brass fitting that goes from the thread to a nipple for the hose. Take the vacuum valve down to the parts store and let one of the sales people there help you figure out a way to get where you want to be. Auto parts sales people at real places like Napa usually know how to do this kind of stuff, you find some people at places like Auto Zone that can help but sometimes they don't know as much as you do either. you are looking for something like this;

That peice right there has a female end yes? cuz the gas tank (on the bottom, where the vacuume petconnect connects to) has a male nipple correct? I'm having a hard time finding this peice and I've checked with Napa and all my local hardware stores. Napa came close to having the part I needed but not the right size. I'm thinking I need a 5/8 female. I could always buy what Napa had and see if it works.
I called my scooter company and 1 of the techs seems to think the gas tank has a 9/16 size male nipple. I think I'll buy a few peices, drain the fule out of the gas tank and see what fits or doesn't fit lol
The tech also said it might not be wise to remove the vacuume petcock. He said if I were to do that, then the gas would rush down the hose and into the carb and overflow it? Would the fuel filter help regulate that?

The fuel running out is why it was suggested you ad a manual petcock, you can turn it off when you turn off the scooter. Manual valves are what was used in all motorcycles and scooters for decades, then somebody came up with the vacuum controlled valve and things have gone downhill since then. you might look for a fitting that is a 9/16 female going to a smaller male, then get a barb that will fit the smaller male, if you can't find the single fitting at the hardware or auto parts store. something like this;

Cool thanks again for the replies. I'll look around some more for a 5/8 and 9/16 fittings and see what I can do.
