got it running and did about 60 miles. i stopped to see my cousin who lives about 20 miles away and had a nice visit. it was pretty cool and damp out but with my heated grips and electric vest it was comfortable.

the 2 ruckus scoots are officially done for the year. they're going into the corner of the shed where the snow blower sits. the blower will be the prefered motor driven equipment for the next several months.

I know what you mean... I KNOW what you mean... LOL! I grew up in the Chicago suburbs, and my snowblower was my most prized possession next to my Hog... LOL! Snow in my long driveway got SO bad I finally adapted a McCulloch kart motor to it for more giddyup… Used the original Lawson motor to belt-start the kart motor! That MC-9 powered bad boy could dig into a 6-foot snow drift and chew it up and spit it out... And it was L-O-U-D... In the world of scooters, I do like the Ruckus types. Just a lot of visual appeal. Lately, when it comes to old-school appeal, I really like the new Kymco "Spade". Sort of combines the best of the original Mustang, Cushman Eagle and full-size HD/Indian bobbers of my misspent youth! Ride safe, STAY WARM!Leo

you won't hear any "global warming" from me. i love fossil fuels. Ah, my kinda guy!I guess I've been that way since my earliest memory... About the age of four, at lunch with mom and dad, a bunch of 1950's outlaw bikers wheeled into the local restaurant we were in... I ran out with dad close behind trying to catch me... I STILL remember running up to the first bobber, still idling and my little nose being right at the level of the top "shotgun Pipe"... I looked up at the jumbo-sized rider, smiling through his bushy beard and yelling "Make it LOUD!" He gunned the old knucklehead and it made such a satisfying cackle and bark! My nose never moved from the blue-smoking fishtail.
I was in LOVE with bikes from then on.The huge biker picked me up and gave me a big hug, growling to my Dad "Is he YOURS?" Yup! "Nice going dad, this little guy is OK!"THAT is one of my EARLIEST memories, and still fresh in my 72-year-old mind... LOL! Nothing else smells quite like a running knuckle or pan... Yup!Memories, memories!

i think the smell of the old knucks and pans comes from the "patina" that was added after each ride. some of that "patina" could actually be seen on the ground at each stop.

You may have something there...And, most of us cleaned the motors with "Gunk" which definitely did add a distinctive smell. Now my pretty flamed '70 Glide DID have a unique "aroma" for two full seasons after a very unfortunate collision with a skunk... I was doing 70 on the interstate when Pepe La Pew trotted onto the 6-lane... I couldn't stop in time, so I did a magnificent snake-dance across all 6 lanes trying to miss the critter, and that idiot skunk matched my maneuvers move-for-move. NO way to avoid it. It was gruesome... I used up GALLONS of Gunk, and buried a good pair of HD boots and a new pair of jeans in my backyard... Even then, the yard smelled all summer... LOL! Live and learn... LOL!

i ran a dead skunk over once with the 85. i was entering the 4 lane, i was just entering the on ramp and there it was laying right where i was pointed. it was dark and i saw it when i was about 10 feet from it. the next morning the garage had that aroma you only get when you run one over. i washed the bike while i held my nose. as far as gunk is concerned, i use it on the 85 every few years. i prefer the original type. the foaming gunk isn't as good as far as i'm concerned. the smell of a freshly gunked motor is wonderful.

Bagga,
Absolutely on the fresh Gunk... I also like the original! Smells MUCH better than baked skunk!

i'm not the kind of guy that has to have a spotless bike. i can go several months without washing. bug guts and dust just doesn't bother me. i keep the bike running good . if something is wrong mechanically it drives me nuts and it has to be repaired (by me) and made rideable as fast as possible.
