Well, boyz n' gurlz...
My B&M dealer (MOXIE SCOOTERS) of Colleyville, TX held a fun-ride and get-together Saturday that was one to remember! When I got my e-mail invite, I couldn't resist letting "Minnie Mouse" do a little "herd" grazing... LOL! Lots of fun, food, music, contests, raffles and of course, the ride!
Riders included ALL ages... from young teens, to, well... Me, at 70... Rides included most everything from Buddy and Stella 125's, to a lady on a new Kymco Exciting 500, and our leader, another lady on a big Morphous. And... EVERYTHING in-between, including one hopped-up Ruckus "skelly".
Above, John explains the attributes of the Genuine Buddy lineup. That lady was pretty hot for the pastel-lavender one!
Sorry, but I was TOO worn out from the ride to snap pix of the "slow drag race" "tire toss" and others... Too busy guzzling water and hot-dogs... LOL! It was just plain HOT! And common sense told me I was "pushing the envelope". I'm finding out that at 70-years-old, I don't have the stamina I once had... As Clint Eastwood said: "...A man's gotta know his limitations..." But, what a great time of fellowship and comradery with 30 or so other riders, and maybe 100 visitors... Including many who stopped to see the festivities and caught the scooter-bug!
After being acquainted with John Raimondi and Moxie Scooters for nearly 10 years, I can HIGHLY recommend the store to anyone in Texas within riding range. Good prices, trade-ins, selection and the best service to be found. Hey, I not only bought "Minnie Mouse" from him 3 years ago, but he even took my Chinese 150 in trade... Now THAT is pretty good!
Today, Sunday, I'm sore all over, and face and hands sunburned to a crisp... Beautiful day, but not the slightest urge to go riding... LOLOLOL! Next week for sure.
I haven't been in a group-ride since the mid 1960's, and that was on "Old Blue" my animal chopper, with a hundred or so other chopper-jockeys. I had forgotten just how much fun it is to ride in a group. This ride was a lot quieter, smaller and more "family-friendly" than my sixties runs, but it was great!
The food included the BEST hot-dogs I ever tasted... The music was loud enough to raise the dead... Good and CLEAN too! NO distortion at probably 180 decibels... What an outdoor sound-system (good fifties rock n' roll, too) mixed with modern stuff for the youngsters and Hispanic tunes for our Mexican friends! And, the entire crowd was friendly, outgoing and respectful. What a pleasure! For the "icing on the cake" I won a certificate for a high-end HELMET! Helmets coming in next week, and my helmet is getting "long in the tooth". The new one WILL be a blessing!
When riders get a chance to participate in a group-ride, I encourage them to do so. It's a positive, and most enjoyable experience to go "knuckles-in-the-wind" with a bunch of like-minded "saddle-pals".
Enjoy!
And ride safe!
