Hi, everyone. My 150cc Velocity scooter has had a problem where it would turn on but wouldn't idle (it would die without throttle). So, I attempted to fix this the other day by checking the fuel and vacuum lines, changing the gas, etc. I've read that it could be that the carburetor is clogged, but I haven't gotten to that yet.
Then today, I reconnected the fuel line to the petcock which I had disconnected over night. I attempted to start the scooter, and now this time when I give it gas it just shuts off. This is new behavior, and I'm not familiar with the cause of why both the throttle would fail as well as the idle. Can anyone help with this? Thanks!

Has the scoot been in storage or is this something that came up during day to day use
If the scoot was in storage was the fuel stabilized and if so what product was used
Are you sure it's getting fuel It could be bad fuel a dirty carb bad petcock or pump

Yes, storage in a garage for about a year without fuel stabilization. The idling problem has been there for quite some time. I recently replaced the old gas with fresh gas.
I can only assume it's getting fuel as when I start it up it actually idles now for 2 seconds before it shuts off. I always believed it to be a dirty carburetor since the beginning - but do the symptoms I've listed match those of a dirty carb?
Also, from what I've read there is supposed to be fuel in the carb's float bowl, correct? I disconnected the fuel line that goes into the petcock, I then went to the bottom of the scooter and unscrewed the float bowl drain screw, but to my surprise no gas came out at all. Is that normal even if there is no fuel line connected to everything? I always thought there was at least some gas left all the time in the carb's float bowl.

Welcome to the forum.
Yes there should be some gas in the bowl.
Is the full filter good, you may have water in the gas from sitting it condenses in fuel so drawn the fuel, check the filter and yes you may have to remove and clean the carb.

Right, I'll see about cleaning the carburetor.
I've recently drained all the gas from the tank and replaced with fresh gas already.
Why would there would be no gas drainage from the carburetor's float bowl?
Is there a way to check if the fuel filter is still functioning properly?
Note: I've noticed that both fuel lines that connect to the petcock seem to be leaking a tiny bit. They seem to not have a tight seal around their petcock connectors. Could this in anyway be what's causing the scooter to die when throttle is applied? Thanks!

Clogged fuel filter would keep gas from getting in and the fuel line epitself could have swollen up inside and clogged the flow of gas. A stuck float in the carb, all that can keep gas from going in.

That makes sense. I'll be sure to check on those things and I'll update as soon as possible! Thanks!
