what variator are most members going with. I live in a flat state and am 175-180ish pounds. Want to swap over the rollers to sliders and don't know the stock weight and if I should consider something different.

What is the size of your unit also how is the performance now. What are you trying to accomplish? Like speed, take off ,high end. ??

If you know the weight of your current rollers it would be helpful. Dr Pulley makes a great variator, but any performance variator would be a upgrade. I suggest weights that are 4.5 to 5.5 that let's the motor spin higher and produce more umph to go better.

What is the size of your unit also how is the performance now. ----------------------------------- My scooter is a stock 2009 Sym Mio 49.5 cc I just got it and it only has 96.5 miles on it. Never been titled either. I took out the bean bag and air duct. I believe the nylon ring is also still in it as well. I plan to look when I get sliding rollers and variator.
I have not started it at all. Just took it home. Paid little to nothing for it. It needed a battery and cover. And a left hand switch set.
Battery purchased www.ebay.com/itm/131466078995?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I could not find much on it when searching through various forums and google. I went out and purchased some simple upgrades and found out today when they came in they were wrong. Im not out a ton of money so Im not really concerned. I spoke with a parts supplier and was led to believe in accordance with the below parts a CY6 was same in these areas.
Wrong parts www.ebay.com/itm/291131229343?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
A video had been shared about the ABOVE upgrades and that they are really pointless so I am now believing. If members suggest upgrading still with correct parts PLEASE save me from stupidity and help me in this uncharted venture. Last scoot I had was a '79 Puch and I could work on that all day long.
---------------------------------- What are you trying to accomplish? Like speed, take off ,high end. ?? ---------------------------------- I think a good median range in all areas would be fine. I don't want to get honked at for take off being to slow BUT at the same time I wanna be as close to 40mph for those zones/roads required. Performance side of things. I wanna keep the scooter so longevity is a must. Not my only motive for transportation BUT my daughter will use it when she becomes responsible.
Upgrades are pretty much inexpensive in all areas so Im open for suggestions as long as it does not blow it up
-------------------------------------- If you know the weight of your current rollers it would be helpful -------------------------------------- Its a stock unit and that's all I know besides whats been shared above.

The best way to know the weight is to take the full set put it on a scale set to read grams and average the weight
Even big brands in the small scoots tend to very take the yamaha zuma they are any where from 6.5 to 7.9 grams stock

If you go to the nearest Sym dealer and ask for stock weights, he can give them to you but as jmkjr mentioned, it may not even be the same as what your scooter had from the factory. Most likely they will be in the 7 ram range but who knows. You can tune the variator for your riding style to make the most out of the power the scooter has.
Try a few different sizes of rollers/sliders. I would recommend about a 5 gram weight but a roller and slider will not be the same weight for a similar performance.
make sure the belt is actually able to run out to near the full face size of the pulley,if it can not run close to the outer limits you will not have a full top end realization.
When choosing a variator you can find different sizes, the larger ones have potentially a higher top end speed, if the belt can not go out to take advantage of the size of the variator, it is not taking full advantage of the variator.
Before you spend the money on a variator, see what just changing the weights will do for you.

Googled a package of the weights by part number 5.9 gram weights i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/lBwAAOxyUrZSz~uD/$_1.JPG
After riding the scooter a bit Im thinking I would be happy with initial take off being a bit faster. Naturally I want to go faster than 30MPH. <current top speed with all restrictions removed except nylon ring on boss drive.
So with that, suggest me some sliding rollers. Assuming Dr. Pulley is the way to go. And a good performance variator to get. I know the scooter is new but should I get any different sliders for it.
If im going in the motor this far any other suggestion on things I may want to upgrade/change like springs???

I'd not yet mess with the springs, I would as I have said before change the weights and since you think you have a 6 gram take it down to 4.5 grams, that will make it wake up off the line for you.

I started sourcing things to buy (variator & sliding weights) Dr. Pulley reviews are good but I see a lot of comments that are not in favor with them. One thing about me is I become indecisive with multiple choices. Still would like to know what brand to go with to get the most out of this/these mods. Maybe even suggest things to look for on kits/variator. I assume is better to get a kit with the weights included as the angle of both when put together is spot on. Where do most go for scooter parts?

At one time Dr Pulley was about the only option a person had for an upgrade, then came along Prodigy followed by others including some generic ones.
These things are all a lot like the other ones. Fortunately competition has brought the price on them all down, I like that. Whatever you get, I suggest getting more than one size/weight of sliders, sliders are generally considered better than rollers, not sure the angle on one is different than any other and they seem to be interchangeable with other brands.
If I were buying one I would look at the actual size of the pulley and probably lean towards a prodigy brand.

Prodigy does not make a variator for a 50cc whats the next best thing lol. Saw this kit but was unsure. www.ebay.com/itm/KYMCO-Super-9-ZX-Cobra-SYM-Fiddle-Jet-Mio-50-Variator-Rollers-Clutch-Bell-Kit-/181415037640It weighs less overall. I cant seem to find the roller weights BUT I thought this might be a setup that everything is in harmony. Im not sure if its a knockoff or not as you mentioned. Dr. Pulley has a variator a tad less BUT its just a few parts not like whats offered above. Kinda confused on what to get/buy. I know you said something with more surface are and to check the sizes available but not all say the size. I have read some drop the belt size down by one or so. Whats the general consensus for that? I took out the O ring on the boss drive and the scoot does 38-40mph. Takes a bit of room to get there but its okay. I was out playing around today. There was a bad headwind. Slowed the scoot down a lot. What are some using for an RPM meter. Should I bother if I am running a stock CDI?
