As I posted elsewhere, work has begun on my new shop building. This has been a real eye opener for me, makes me really angry at the hoops the county makes you go through in California to build anything, really anything, you can't replace a water heater without a building permit here. Costs for this ran up there in my book. I paid one guy $500.00 to level off the pad, well that was wishful thinking. I had to go with a second company and that one ran $4,000.00 to get it done to legal specs. Cement, first bid was $4,200.00, I went with a lower bid company, $3,500.00 Building purchase and set up $6,748.70 Building permit fees were right at $700.00 Here are some pics of the slab being poured this morning.

Wong location for a scooter shop, to remote. I'm going to be moving my '72 vette in there, rebuilding my Dads sand bug he made in the 60's, then my two scooter and mt motorcycle will call it home. it will be full enough with all that and my wood working/reloading/welding..... projects. here is the "bug" as it was in the late 70's

slab sat over night, I went out and hosed it down a few times to help it cure better. Tomorrow I will call for delivery of the building and set up of the building. It is a strange size, 18 X 31, I asked for 12 foot walls, the peak of the roof will be another 4 feet higher, so I have plenty of head space and am planning on a loft structure to give me more space in the future. Slab footings were a bit over sized at almost a foot and a half wide and deep.

For footings set on fill 18 to 24 in is pretty normal 12 to 18 on good firm Natural soils
Heck I'm used to haveing to deal with frost deaths of 4 foot

Code here is a 12 inch footing, fill had to meet certain specs for compaction. We also have little rain and no freezing of the ground. People will run sprinkler lines less than six inches down.

Doug,
GREAT building project! I don't get onto ScooterRebels very often these days. I stick mostly with "ItIsTheRide" as my time is pretty limited. Gotta check in once in a while, and I think you're REALLY going to enjoy the new shop!
Enjoy!
