my 90 cc motor is back firing....I've never had a 2 stroke back fire before. can some one help please. this is actually a 90cc herchee atv that belongs to my granddaughter. it was running fine one day and then it started to have problems. I thought I picked up some trash in the carb so I cleaned it but I still am having problems with it running.

2 things could be causing this. 1st is if it was overheated it can ware the piston to mix the compression cycle and exhaust. The piston is part of the valve system and over heating melts and causes the back firing under load or higher revs. 2ND it the reed valves. If 1st it is a rebuild. Back firing will quickly damage reed valves. If running to rich is the last thing and the unburden fuel detonate on intake or back fires.
