Is it easy or not to replace a carb? How many hoses do I have to take off? I'm thinking about doing a carb replacement myself, if I know that my issue is a faulty carb then I should buy a carb and put it myself. Plus I wouldn't mind saving the money I was gonna give to the mechanic.

Depends upon your skills For fe I can do two strokes with my eyes closed and one arm behind my back
Four stroke I would have no problem with
It depends upon your scoot and smog crap for how many hoses Simply label them and take pics it should be easy as pie

I haven't had to mess with a carb since my bike is fuel injected. But, I have been amazed with how easy it is to pick this stuff up. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but the few problems I had with my bike I was able to track down and fix pretty quick. Plus taking it apart helped me with learning where things are and how they are hooked up.
I know from when I used to take apart and build computers that the advice JMKR gave is spot on. Label your lines and you will save yourself a LOT of headaches later on. Also, the wealth of knowledge of the world is at our fingertips, so I'm sure that there are videos online that show it being done (online videos have helped me with a few bike projects).
You can do this Partyboy, and you will not only have the satisfaction of not giving your mechanic that money, but of doing this yourself. And once you do that, then if you have it again or when you do another project you will carry that confidence with you.

It is not hard to do.
Take lots of pics of it before you start so you have something to look back at.

Carbs are very basic depending on make and model of scoot. After pulling your seat bucket out, you have 15-20 mins. of labor left to do. There's many videos and step by step tutorials all over the net.

CARB UPDATE: ok guys i finally bought a carb (yay) but it isnt high performance, i know, bummer. Its actually the same size (24mm) but its made in taiwan, the reason i did this is cause i didnt want to spend too much money at this time (having job issues) later on in the future i will buy a premium high performance carb, i almost did buy one but i didnt. Anyway i just occured to me to ask is there anything i have to do to the Carb? or is it just plug and play, just making sure cause im new to all this scooter mechanic world. www.scooterworks.com/carburetor--24-mm---gy6-products-950.php#.U0govccSKHk
