QUOTE
"Out of idle curiosity I asked them how much they would charge to do an oil change on it and he told me that they would not do one since it was "one of those bikes", and they did not have a shop manual for it and "they can be very complicated". I'm still trying to figure out how removing a drain bold, draining oil, removing and replacing a filter, then adding oil is "very complicated", but then I remind myself that they are morons." This sort of hostal scape goating of folks is often based in a bad personal maturity and a low tollerence level.
But often in mechanic shops it is the only sane and kind understanding you can come to.
hahahahahahaha welcome to bikers!.
As I remember this is a five minute oil change out on this bike once you set up your space to do it, just look around under the oil pan and you will see the bolt, remove and install it gently, its white metal, plus it has a real good o-ring around the inner rim.
I would skip the boron till you have put about five oil changes on it, as for a better break in.
if your bike is brand new--at about 350--500 miles with new oil add about 2 level teaspoons to real hot oil, then ride bike, it will change state from a powder to a liquid almost intantly.
And the engine will get so smooth sounding it can only be called miraculious, but this will make your CVT louder, and when you need a valve adjust you will really hear it do to a quieter engine.
the following can't hurt.
get the china oil out, I use the best the dollar store sells, which near me there product is rated very high.
I use 40 weight.
first real ride, ride the bike slow all day or just for an hour, , and then change oil as soon as you get home, that first ride puts all the manufacturing engine alumn bits into oil fast--get rid of it first day.
using a hair dryer on high, blow into the dip stick hole and watch the last of the oil come out the bottom oil drain, this will get the last of the filelings out.
you will see oil filter screen in the cap/bolt you remove from bottom of engine, you can blow it out will carb cleaner, put back in, open end up, inside spring, you will feel it move into place, tighten gently
Second change, this will get the last of the china fish oil out.
3rd change at 100 miles
and change every 100 miles till you go through 5 changes, dollar store oil is cheap 3.00 bucks
6th oil change you are broke in, change oil, run bike till hot, stop park, open oil fill, roll up chinese menu, insert small end into fill, drop 2 level teaspoons of humco boric acid down large end of menu, close oil fill.
run bike parked till engine gets ( about 2 mins) quiet and CVT sounds louder.
ride bike laughing your ass off at a sick oil controlled world.
boron with sea foam makes the smoothest sounding bike in the world.
at 1 and 1/2 gallions filled tank add 10 -12 caps of sea foam.
Don't start treating the bike like the virgin mary, it is JUST a mechine, it will break down some day.
But in the mean time it is your mechine, paid for, yours, new car owners and 5 years of payments go to hell.
don't waste money on 10 dollar a qt oil, better to change out hi grade dollar store every week then $ 10 a qt every month.

CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW BIKE BROTHER, DO DRIVE WISE AND SAFE TO COME BACK AND TELL US ABOUT IT.

Thanks Terra. I was wondering though, in your Boric Acid thread you mention pre-mixing the boric acid with water and leaving over night. Do I not need to do that? This is great advice in your post, I do appreciate it. We all want complete control conditions over the things we do, however sometimes things are not so all complicated.
Boron will slowly fuse with water compressed by pressure in your system and adhear to metal, this moisture will enter by way of your head valve breather and your air intake, combined with the boron it will stick to metals, but at a certian friction pressure-STOP the build up.
this is why you want to break in with out it boron, you are broke in tho at this point.
if you add water there is a quicker build up, maybe a good thing to do when there is excessive ring wear, but it will stop adhearing way before there is a over build up and this will protect metals.
I swear to you on my mothers grave be fore i blew a valve spring on my old engine, it burned less oil the last half of its life then the first half.
every other oil change i bought a extra qt of oil to add for low oil levels do to burning oil.
when the bike broke down i was only buying extra oil every third oil change instead of ever second oil change.
I know we live in a world of snake oil, but i have used boron for 2 and 1/2 years now
no problem.
hahahahahahaha get a good ear for your engine sound, then add the boron to hot oil, and run engine, the quieting effect will freak you, it will quiet right before your ears as you hear that by the way, your engine temp will reduce as well.
but remember, you have a oil filter, so never add boron unless oil is very hot and ride bike for a half hour or it will liquifie very slowly,
theres a guy on another forum who added 8 frigging heaping table spoons of boric, and clogged his filter.
IF YOU WANT, ADD 1 TEASPOON AND RIDE A DAY, THEN ANOTHER DAY ADD 1 TEASPOON, THAT CAN NOT FAIL.

I had the united motors version which is the same. The gas filler is covenient but it was hard to use with high pressure pumps. It kicked by gas all down the dash. But my only real complaint other than parts avalibility is the leg room. I'm 6'3 and my legs were really cramped. But over all a great scoot.

FYI California charges a "use tax" if you bring a vehicle in from another state. Used to be you could go to another state and buy a new car or truck and save hundreds in sales tax and use that for a vacation. California got tired of that and came ip with the use tax. They charge it to people that move to the state as well.

Went down to DMV today and registered the bike, $241 for two year registration, however $88 of that was the actual registration and the rest was tax. Since I purchased the bike in New Hampshire and they do not have sales tax, the state of Vermont decided that they would stick their hand out and force me to pay them for an item that I purchased in another state. I have to wonder, if New Hampshire had a higher sales tax than Vermont, would Vermont have refunded me the difference? I somehow doubt that. But, at least the registration is taken care of and I don't have to worry about it for two more years. Now have to take it up to the crap hole dealership that I got my Zuma from to get inspected...another $30 dollars to the state. I find myself missing Ohio...lol. Wow! $241 for a scooter tag and registration! And I thought $15 was high in Arkansas! To register even a new vehicle here as far as a normal passenger car or 1/2 ton truck you're looking at less than $50. I just bought tags the other day for my wife's Chevy and it was $27.75, my 93 Silverado is the same. Even if it's a new vehicle you pay registration fees one time along with a new cars sales tax and if you trade a late model vehicle in for a new one you get a prorated credit from the last one you traded and paid sales tax on. When I bought my wife's Chevy 3 months ago we traded in her less than 2 year old vehicle and the sales tax on this one plus registration was only $550. If you buy a used vehicle here if it's less than $5k then no sales tax at all is charged. I knew California was outrageous because I have a son in law and daughter living in Calfornia now because he is a Marine but I never dreamed a state like Vermont would be this high? All motorcycle tags after initial registration and such are $5 yearly here. We have no state inspection and to get your tags you have to show proof of insurance and last years property taxes being paid. I'll not fuss at my DMV any more for their high prices I can assure you now! I own 5 acres and my property taxes are just barely higher than your registration fee at $277 a year. BTW awesome scooter!
